How to here:
THRS/ TRA/ Bus�From Kaohsiung Main Station, transfer to Kaohsiung Rapid Transit (KRT)
Take the train bound for Siaogang
Take off at Formosa Boulevard Station (R10) then transfer to Orange Lane bound for Sizihwan and take off at Yanchengpu Station (O2)
Go to exit 4, walk right and stop at the bank. You will see the bus stop sign for bus (No. 56) to Shou Shan Zoo Station.
You can stop at the Shou Shan Zoo parking lot, walk up ahead passing Monkey Mountain Trail, Zoo entrance and temples then you will reach the Visitor center / View Deck (known as the Love Mountain) or you can start from the top down to parking lot.

How to: Climb Kaohsiung Monkey Mountain - Chai Shan 怎麼爬高雄柴山 | Life in Taiwan

Join us on our weekly hike to Kaohsiung's Monkey Mountain - Chai Shan! This video explains how to climb Kaohsiung's Monkey Mountain, Monkey Mountain trailhead location and how to get there, what you will need to bring and even where you can have a delicious traditional Chinese breakfast after your climb.

There are two main trailheads to climb Monkey Mountain: Shou Shan (near the zoo) and Chai Shan (further north). I prefer Chai Shan, and I'll show you here how to climb yourself!
Time: 1.5 - 3 hour round trip (depending on climbing speed and how many photos you take!)
Bring: Water, bug repellent, walking shoes, comfortable clothing
Optional: sweat towel (May to October), bandaids
Do not bring: food of any kind, plastic bags or wrappers (or the monkeys will be attracted to you - please note food is prohibited on the mountain for this reason)
Getting there
- Public transport: use google maps transit directions for bus routes (navigate to the 7-11 at the link below). Please note these often do not run before 7 am.
- Walking: the trailhead is about a half hour walk from Aozidi MRT station.
- Taxi/Uber: Show one of the addresses below to your driver (I recommend asking him to take you to the 7 Eleven as it's a major landmark and walking from there). The fare from Aozhidi MRT station (taxi rank at exit 2) is approximately nt120.
- Public bicycle
---City bike: You can use your credit card to rent these, but you keep paying until they are returned to a station. The closest station is at this 7 Eleven, a 10 minute walk from the mountain.
--- O-bike: Download the o-bike app to find an available bike. Once you arrive at the mountain, you can leave the bike there and it will likely still be there for you to re-rent when you come back down (and there are often extra available O-bikes at the trailhead or nearby).

Shoushan, known as the Dog Mountain, Drum Mountain, and Gushan Mountain, commonly known as Chaishan, is a mountain located in the southwest coast of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, and is also a natural barrier for the coastal sea in Kaohsiung City. Its geology belongs to the uplifted coral reef limestone, and there are many natural caves. On the mountain, there are sightseeing spots such as Shoushan Park, Longquan Temple, Qianguang Temple, Faxing Temple, Yuanheng Temple, Martyr's Shrine, and Zoo. Among them, Shoushan Park, the top of the mountain overlooks Kaohsiung Port and enjoys the sunset of Xiziwan and Kaohsiung City.

Kaohsiung City (Hokkien POJ: Ko-hiông; Hakka: Kô-hiùng; old names: Takao, Takow, Takau) is a special municipality in Taiwan located in southern-western Taiwan and facing the Taiwan Strait. It is Taiwan's largest municipality by area at 2,951.85 km2 (1,139.72 sq mi), stretching from Mt. Jade to Taiping Island. Since its start in the 17th century, Kaohsiung has grown from a small trading village into the political, economic, transportation, manufacturing, refining, shipbuilding, and industrial center of southern Taiwan.
The Kaohsiung International Airport is the second largest airport in Taiwan. The Port of Kaohsiung is the largest harbor in Taiwan, but not officially part of Kaohsiung City. The southern terminal of the Freeway 1 is in Kaohsiung. For north-south travel on railway, the city is served by the Taiwan Railways Administration stations of TRA Western Line and Pingtung Line. The Taiwan High Speed Rail also provides fast and frequent railway connection to Taipei. The Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit, the city's subway system, was launched in early 2008. How to get there:
Stop at Gangshan South MRT Station (R24), take bus R68A from exit 1 or take a taxi. If you drive a car you may park at parking lots that available at Agondian Reservoir Management Center, Agongdian Forest Park, Tsailiao Rd. Parking lot and Dazhuang Park and take a shuttle bus (25nt each) that departs every 15 to 20 minutes or taxi..

壯觀的崖壁
相信很多人都看過宮崎駿的經典卡通「龍貓」，卡通裡的小妹妹「梅」跑到一個樹洞而發現森林守護者龍貓的劇情，讓人印象深刻。說到這個樹洞，高雄柴山上也有一個很類似的地方，且讓人驚艷的是，爬過柴山的這處樹洞，迎面看到的就是一片視野遼闊的海景，這裡的美景會讓人看得入迷而駐足許久。
其實柴山就叫做壽山，隸屬高雄鼓山區，舊稱打狗山，相信很多人都聽過這舊名，它是一座風景綺麗且富有自然資源的山林，包括豐富的林木生態、台灣獼猴等，在山上可遠眺西子灣夕陽與高雄港，美不勝收，且此處景點不少，包括動物園、萬壽山公園等。很多人習稱柴山是高雄的後山，與高雄熱鬧市區相比，柴山是個極佳的靜謐踏青好去處。
建議旅遊路線
如果是住中、北部想前往柴山遊玩，不妨搭高鐵到高雄左營站，可多利用AVIS租車站，它在台北市信義區、各高鐵站都有據點；在高鐵服務站取車，憑當日高鐵票根還可享平日7折、假日8折優待。
搭乘高鐵至高雄站，於AVIS取車後，高鐵站出來可接快速公路橋下，再轉博愛三路、博愛二路，直接接到中山路，看到七賢二路右轉，再開一小段就可看到往西子灣的路標，到達西子灣後由中山大學大門進入，順著校園馬路行駛可看到往柴山的指示牌，順著柴山大道就可抵柴山，如路況順暢，從高鐵站約半小時可抵達柴山。

在抵達西子灣時就可欣賞美麗的海灣景色，慢慢開到柴山後沿途也可看到清楚的海景，一路吹著涼風看著似乎無盡的大海，感覺相當愜意；若稍稍留意，路旁還會看到台灣獼猴，但建議不要餵食，以免破壞生態。
