Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Temple is located about 29km from Rishikesh. The temple is one of the most revered holy shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site.

26.5 km from Rishikesh and 50 km from Haridwar, Nilkanth Mahadev Temple is an ancient Hindu temple situated at an altitude of 1330 meters and Pauri of Uttarakhand is located in Garhwal district. It is one of the popular temples of Uttarakhand state and is one of the top places to go to Rishikesh.
Nilkanth Mahadev Temple is one of the most respected holy temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is surrounded by dense jungle and Narwar Narayan is close to the mountain ranges. This temple is situated between the valleys of Manikoot, Brahmakut and Vishnukut and Nanak is situated at the confluence of Pankaja and Madhumati rivers.
According to Hindu mythology, this is where Lord Shiva consume poisoned halahala which came out of the sea when the deity and Asuras had churned the sea to get Amrita. He stopped the poison in poison, due to which his neck became blue. Thus, Lord Shiva is also called Nilakanth, which literally means Blue Throwed One.
The architecture of the temple is magnificent and exotic, which shows the mythological story of sea-churning. The story of sea-churning is depicted with the complex carvings of the idols of Devas and Asuras, and Lord Shiva is seen to drink poison. A sanctum is a life-size statue of Shiv Lingam and Goddess Parvati at the entrance to the temple. There is also a natural spring in the temple premises where devotees usually take holy bath before entering the temple premises.
This temple celebrates two fairs annually on the occasion of Maha Shivratri (February / March) and Shravan Shivratri (July / August), during which the devotee (Kewariya) goes from Haridwar to Nilkanth Mahadev Temple. Devotees who pay Nilkanth Mahadev's visit, they offer Lord Shiva's leaves, coconut, flowers, milk, honey, fruits and water.
Ram Jhula and Lakshman Jhulla taxis available from Taxi and Sumos are standing to reach this temple. The path of the temple is quite beautiful which is a charm. There is also a trekking route, 22 km away from Ram Jhula.
