Śrīla Prabhupāda is a short name for His Divine Grace Oṁ Viṣṇupāda Paramahaṁsa Parivrājakācārya Aṣṭottara-śata Śrī Śrīmad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, the greatest Vedic ācārya (teacher in disciplic succession from Kṛṣṇa of the 20th century.
Śrīla Prabhupāda possesses the unique historical distinction of fulfilling the desire and prophecy of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, Pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma | sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma: In every town and village on this earth the glories of My Holy Name will be chanted. [Caitanya-bhāgavata, Antya-līlā 4.126] A native of Kolkata (Calcutta), Śrīla Prabhupāda was the most prominent disciple of his guru, Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Gosvāmī, the eminent Vedic scholar, teacher, and self-realized saint. Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatīs father, Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, pioneered the propagation of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhus teachings in the Western countries. Śrīla Prabhupāda continued that effort and realized tremendous success, writing, publishing and distributing tens of millions of authorized translations of Vedic literature in English and many other languages throughout the world. He also initiated thousands of disciples and established hundreds of temples, schools, preaching missions and spiritual communities worldwide. His pioneering work in presenting the Esoteric Teaching in the West is still going on through his disciples.
