Virgin Mary Shrine Banneux Belgium
Our Lady of Banneux, or Our Lady of the Poor, is the sobriquet given to the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Mariette Beco, an adolescent girl living in Banneux, province of Liège (Belgium). Between January 15 and March 2, 1933, Beco told her family and parish priest of seeing a Lady in white who declared herself to be the Virgin of the Poor, saying I come to relieve suffering and believe in me and I will believe in you.

Our Lady of Banneux: The Blessed Virgin of the poor
I am the Blessed Virgin of the poor. This is how Mary introduced herself to an 11-year-old little girl named Mariette Béco during the third of eight apparitions, which unfolded from January 15th to March 2nd of 1933. These apparitions took place in Banneux, a small Belgian village in the region of Ardennes, in the intermediate years between the two world wars. The beginning of the 20th century was an extremely tumultuous era: communist power was expanding, the Nazis were just beginning to rise to power in Germany, and the exploitation of the working class was at its height. Mariette was the oldest of seven children, from a family that was not well-off and who did not practice their faith. She was, therefore, a soul in need of conversion -- a soul poor in faith -- whom Mary sought out in order to demonstrate her closeness to all of humanity. On January 18th, during the second apparition, Our Lady pointed out a spring to Mariette that was found along a pathway; Mary said that this spring belonged to her. The next day, while the little girl was praying, the Blessed Virgin explained her desire, saying: This spring is reserved for all the nations -- to relieve the sick. Along with the other fervent requests that Our Lady made to the little girl, Mary also asked for a chapel to be built, the construction and inauguration of which would subsequently take place in the summer of 1933. 16 years later, in 1949, the Bishop of Liège officially approved these apparitions in the name of the Church. The lady who appeared to Mariette and identified herself as The Mother of the Savior, the Mother of God, still encourages pilgrims today to do the same as the child did, to dip your hands in the water of the spring in order to receive Christs grace. It is a message of hope and an invitation to prayer, which Mary, the Mother of Compassion, asks of all mankind. Throughout the year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims come to Banneux, above all during the Triduum (a pilgrimage of three days) in order to commend their poverty to Our Lady of Banneux. Pope John Paul II, during his own pilgrimage to the Shrine at Banneux on May 21st, 1985, said: Today, the poor and there are many forms of poverty! feel at home in Banneux. The poor come here seeking consolation, courage, hope, and union with God during their trials. I encourage those pilgrims who come here to pray, always and with the whole Church, to reflect the merciful face of God. Mary, Our Lady of the Poor -- you lead us to Jesus, the Source of Grace, and you come to relieve our suffering. We implore you with trust to help us to follow your Son with generosity and to belong to Him without reserve.

Mary’s Apparitions for the World: Banneux, Belgium
Banneux is a small village in French-speaking Belgium 50 miles north of Beauraing. In 1933 the Beco family was living in a modest house built by the father of the family. We’re still deep in the Great Depression. Julien and Louise Beco, though cradle Catholics, had long abandoned the practice of the Faith. The Beco’s oldest child, Mariette, was eleven years-old that January. On Sunday night, January 15, 1933, Mariette was downstairs with her mother, who was tending the baby, while Mariette watched another child who lay sick in his crib. Mr. Beco had dozed off in the back of the room. There is snow on the ground. Mariette sees the luminous figure of a beautiful young woman standing in the garden. Mary would return seven more times and deliver messages for the world.

I Am The Virgin Of The Poor, The Story Of Our Lady Of Banneux
Our Lady of Banneux, or Our Lady of the Poor, is the sobriquet given to the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Mariette Beco, an adolescent girl living in Banneux, province of Liège (Belgium). Between January 15 and March 2, 1933, Beco told her family and parish priest of seeing a Lady in white who declared herself to be the Virgin of the Poor, saying I come to relieve suffering and believe in me and I will believe in you.
Mariette Beco was twelve years old when she reported Marian apparitions in 1933 in Banneux, Belgium, a hamlet about 15 kilometres (10 mi) southeast of the city of Liège. In this case, the Lady in White reportedly declared she was the Virgin of the Poor and said: Believe in me and I will believe in you.
According to Mariette, she first saw the Blessed Virgin on the evening of Sunday, January 15, 1933, as she was looking out the kitchen window. A woman in white stood in the garden and called to her to come out, but her mother would not let her. She is described as a young lady in the yard smiling at her. The woman was bent slightly forward and wearing a long white gown with a blue sash, and a transparent white veil. Three days later the woman in white reappeared and told Mariette she was Our Lady of the Poor. The lady appeared eight times in all, the last on March 2, 1933.
In one of these visions, Mariette said the Lady asked her to plunge (push) her hands into a small spring [poussez vos mains dans l'eau], telling her the spring was for healing and for all nations. Over time the site drew pilgrims. Today, the small spring yields about 2,000 gallons of water a day with many reports of miraculous healings.
Mariette, meanwhile, became the object of local derision, with even grandmother and aunt making fun of her. Boys followed her around, calling her Bernadette, kneeling and asking for her blessing.[3] Her claims were subject to an official investigation from 1935 to 1937 by an episcopal commission. The evidence collected was submitted to Rome for further analysis. Meanwhile, a hospital was built in 1938.
In May 1942, Bishop Kerkhofs of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Liège (Belgium) approved the veneration of Mary under the title of Our Lady of the Poor.[4] Then, in 1947, approval for the apparitions came from the Holy See. It was declared definite in 1949.
After the apparitions, Mariette decided to remain a private person, married and led a quiet family life.[7] A small chapel stands where the Virgin of the Poor is said to have requested it to be built.
Mariette died on December 2, 2011, at the age of 90.[8] In 2008 she made a final statement about her role in the apparitions: I was no more than a postman who delivers the mail. Once this has been done, the postman is of no importance any more.
As Our Lady of Banneux she has two titles: Our Lady of the Poor and Queen of Nations. Her feast day under these titles is January 15.

Banneux Belgium - Marian Apparitions of the 20th Century
If men only knew what eternity is, they would do everything in their power to change their lives.
Deeply rooted in humanity's history, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been making repeated visitations throughout the world, particularly in the latter part of the 20th century, to warn us that we are on the brink of destruction unless we heed her messages for repentance, prayer, conversion, fasting and reconciliation.
Is humanity on the verge of self-destruction? Can the world be delivered from the fear engulfing it today?
