Situated in South Shropshire, with free Wi-Fi and free parking on site, this former coaching inn offers a delicious full English breakfast served in a dining room with stained glass windows.
Rooms at Stokesay Inn have simple décor and traditional wooden furnishings, and each has an en suite bathroom. Picturesque views can also be enjoyed from each guest room in the pub.
Guests can relax in the garden, or enjoy a game of pool in the bar, which has a range of drinks on offer. The property features traditional design and an original Bruce Bairnsfather painting.
Locally sourced ingredients are used in the restaurant, where dishes like twice-cooked pork belly, pan-fried Scottish salmon, and battered fish and chips are available.
Stokesay Inn is close to the Discovery Centre, where you can take a virtual balloon ride over the Shropshire hills. There are a number of pretty walks nearby, including Three Woods and The Shropshire Way.

SHROPSHIRE HILLS DISCOVERY CENTRE 2015

Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre is a museum in Southern Shropshire, Just south of Craven Arms.

The Museum offers exhibitions around the Shropshire Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and informs people about the history, geography, and biology of the area.

The exhibition includes a life-size mammoth, Iron Age roundhouse, and a hot air balloon simulation. Other facilities include a local art gallery, gift shop, craft room and cafe.

As part of the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre, Onny Meadows has been turned into a tourist and education site to help promote the Shropshire Hills, and countryside.

The meadow includes planted wildflowers, hedgerows, and trees/woodland.

Clun is aa small towh in amongst the South Shropshire hills (an AONB). It is something like 10 miles west of Craven Arms and 25 miles south of Shrewsbury. The popular town of Bishop's Castle lies 5 miles to the north

The 2011 census figures show the population to be around 680 people. Whilst only a small town it does at least have a few shops (including two butchers, antique and collectables shops, a hair salon and a convenience store). There are 2 public houses available should you so wish. Public toilets are availble, situated (I think) just off the B4368 Newcastle Road, near to a car park

Being slightly off the beaten track, research by the CPRE shows Clun to be one of the most tranquil locations in England. A nice spot to enjoy this peace is by the picturesque river bridge, where there are a couple of benches

Attractions in the town include (taken from Wiki:):
''- The Norman Clun Castle, now only a ruin but with grounds which are used for the May fair
- The fifteenth century Clun Bridge (basically a packhorse bridge), most of which is still the original stone despite being a road bridge today used by all vehicles
- Trinity Hospital, almshouses built in 1614, on Hospital Lane
- A museum in the Town Hall, on the corner of The Square and High Street
- The main church in the town is St George's Church, which is situated on the steep rise out of the town (Church Street) to the south of Clun Bridge.The nave includes Norman columns, but the entire church apart from the tower was rebuilt extensively by the Victorian architect G. E. Street in 1877
- Clun is a popular starting point for walkers who wish to explore the Shropshire Way, the Jack Mytton Way or the local circular walks. A walkers' car park is situated at the Memorial Hall.''

Also popular is the Green Man Festival which usually takes place over several days, the first week of May each year. The festival sees the Green Man usher in spring - something I took a look at here:

Titterstone Clee Hill - Shropshire Hill Walks 3/127 Highest Shropshire Hills AONB

Titterstone Clee Hill (sometimes referred to as Titterstone Clee) at 533 metres is the 3rd highest hill in Shropshire, just behind The Brown Clee and the Stiperstones. You can drive really close via Dhustone Lane near Cleehill village, and there is plenty of parking adjacent to abandoned quarry buildings. This means you only have to ascend 50m to reach the summit in order to soak in the fantastic views. Other start points (such as Cleeton St Mary) can offer a more challenging route to the top. It is easily recognised from great distances due to the 'golf ball' radar navigation installation.
Small moan... in the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre (Craven Arms) they will tell you that the Titterstone Clee is the highest hill in Shropshire!!! A monumental error considering their purpose of educating you about Shropshire Hills. Please both forgive them and ignore them.
If ever you go to Hereford, pay a visit to the cathedral if only to see the Mappa Mundi, on which the Titterstone Clee is clearly identified.

Wind is gusty and sitting at roughly 10mph!....Shows how stable these things are in strong winds!...as long as you have room to correct it if the gusts do take it off track a bit!
