Siguniang Twin Peaks 2016
The Four Sisters Mountain (also known as Siguniang Shan) Scenic Area is situated in Xiaojin County of A’ba Prefecture in Sichuan Province of China. The area is reputed to be the “Queen of Mountains in Sichuan” and “The Oriental Alps” because of the beautiful mountain landscape and exquisite snow peaks scenery. The Four Sisters Mountain Scenic Area consists of Mt Siguniang, Mt Balang, and 3 main valleys – Haizi Gou, Changping Gou, Shuangqiao Gou.
Mt Siguniang stands between Haizi Gou and Changping Gou. Mt Siguniang encompasses four peaks: DaFeng (Big Peak or 1st peak / 5038m), ErFeng (2nd peak / 5276 m), SanFeng (3rd peak / 5355m) and Yaomei Feng (4th peak / 6250m).
We combined both the DaFeng and Erfeng into a twin peaks trek. The two peaks shares the same access point in Haizi Gou. The first climb is DaFeng, followed by Erfeng. For better acclimatization, there is an acclimatization day at the DaFeng Base Camp. After the DaFeng summit, we will rest and recover at DaFeng Base Camp for the night before the traverse trek to ErFeng Base Camp the next day. After Erfeng summit, rest and recover again at Erfeng Base Camp for the night. The last day of the trek, we descend through Haizi Gou to Rilong.
Mount Siguniang 3rd Peak
Mount Siguniang is the highest mountain of Qionglai Mountains in Western China. It is located in the bordering area of Rilong Town, Xiaojin County and Wenchuan County in Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.
Mount Siguniang encompasses four peaks:
Daguniang Feng (1st peak) 5,025 m
Erguniang Feng (2nd peak) 5,276 m
Sangungiang Feng (3rd peak) 5,355 m
Yaomei Feng (4th peak) 6,250 m
The highest peak is Yāomèi Fēng (幺妹峰; peak of the youngest sister), also known as the Queen of Sichuan's peaks (蜀山皇后), standing at 6,250 m (20,510 ft). It is also the second highest mountain in Sichuan Province and the easternmost 6,000 m (20,000 ft) or higher peak on Earth. The first ascent was in 1981 by a Japanese team via the east ridge. Very few people attempt to climb this and very few of those succeed. The first ascent of the southwest ridge was made in 2008 by Chad Kellogg and Dylan Johnson.
The other three lower peaks are regular mountaineering destinations through all seasons.
Mount Siguniang DaFeng ( peak of the oldest sister, 5,025 m or 16,486 ft) is normally considered as a pure trekking peak while ErFeng (; peak of the second sister, 5,276 m or 17,310 ft) and SanFeng ( peak of the third sister, 5,355 m or 17,569 ft) are more challenging, requiring basic climbing techniques.
Mount Siguniang is renowned for its beauty. Mount Siguniang National Park was identified as a UNESCO Heritage Site as part of Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries in 2006. The park comprises Mount Siguniang and the surrounding three valleys, namely Changping Valley (長坪溝), Haizi Valley (海子溝) and Shuangqiao Valley (雙橋溝), covering an area of 2,000sq km.

The trek to Dafeng Base Camp (4200m), through Haizi Gou, is a straight forward gradual ascent of around 6-8 hours. For better acclimatization, there is an acclimatization day at Dafeng Base Camp. The summit route is on rocky terrain and can be covered in ice and snow. After the summit (around 7-8 hours round trip) and a meal at Dafeng Base Camp, we will pack up to traverse across (1-2 hours) to Erfeng Base Camp. Erfeng's summit terrain is similar to Defeng's but steeper and more challenging. After Erfeng summit (around 7-8 hours round trip), descent to Erfeng Base Camp to rest and recover for the night.
