Chengdu - Road Trip - Yingxiu - Part 1
Our journey continued in Sichuan. We went on a road trip DEEP in Sichuan. This is Part one of our trip. First stop - Yingxiu. The town was devastated by the earthquake 2008-05-12. Totally destroyed and then completely rebuilt. We visited a memorial for those who endured that terrible event. It really hurts to see a school ravaged by the force of nature. It is difficult to comprehend what people went through.
We then had a meal at a local family restaurant. You see, locals intercept you on the road offering free parking as long as you have a bite at their restaurant. And interestingly, we saw a sign “Americans are welcomed, we charge you 25% more!” How ironic :)

STORYLINE
Frantic rescue efforts continued on Tuesday across China as the death toll climbed relentlessly higher after a massive earthquake that hit the country on Monday afternoon.
Chinese state media said that the death toll now exceeds 12,000 in Sichuan province alone, but difficulties in accessing some areas meant the total number of casualties remained uncertain.
At least 500 people were confirmed dead in the epicentre in Wenchuan county, north of the Sichuan provincial capital, Chengdu, the official Xinhua News Agency reported early on Wednesday (late on Tuesday GMT).
At Juyuan Middle School in Dujiangyan City, in Sichuan province, the grim work of searching through the rubble of a school continued, as more bodies were brought out, and bodies wrapped in white sheets were laid out nearby.
Only one survivor has been found: a girl pulled free by a rescue team. Her identity has not been released.
Unless more survivors are found, the quake will have wiped out the school's entire graduating class and about half its student population of 900 teenagers.
Family members lit incense and candles, and relatives wept over the bodies.
