Shukkeien Garden, Hiroshima in 4K - 縮景園 広島 - Japan As It Truly Is
Shukkeien Garden is one of western Japan's most fantastic gardens - yet so few actually discover it and enjoy its beauty.
Shukkeien Garden was created in 1620 and is one of Japan's most beautiful and elegant places. It was completely destroyed by the A-Bomb blast yet was rebuilt and today is one of the most impressive gardens to visit in the area - yet so few people actually do. There are special places to view most of the year - plum blossoms (in bloom late Jan to early Mar), cherry blossoms & peach blossoms (late Mar to early Apr), and autumn leaves in November. At other times in the spring, you can also see peonies, hydrangea, and Japanese lilies.
The truly sad thing is that many tourists come to Hiroshima as a day trip, stampede to the Peace Park & Museum, and then leave. Few ever discover this wonderful Japanese garden or other gems like the Mitakidera Temple.
Shukkeien Garden is open 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Apr-Sep. Until 5 PM Oct-Mar. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Entrance fee is 260 yen.
Closed Dec 29-31. In both spring and autumn, there are special evening hours also. You can walk to Shukkeien from Hiroshima Station in about 15 minutes, or take tram line 9 and get off at the Shukkeien-Mae stop.

Shukkeien - Japanese Garden, Hiroshima ᴴᴰ ● 縮景園 広島
► Shukkeien is a beautiful edo-style garden, originally founded in 1620, but being very close to ground zero of the nuclear attack, it was completely destroyed.
In 1951 it was rebuilt with great attention to detail, to make sure every bonsai, stone and bridge would be in the exact same place as before the bombings.
The result is, Shukkeien Garden remains one of the most beautiful and attractive gardens in south-western Japan - well worth a visit if you happen to be traveling to that part of Japan. - Enjoy.

Shukkeien Gardens, Hiroshima, Japan
Shukkeien (縮景園) (pronounced shoe-K-N) is a historic Japanese garden in the city of Hiroshima, Japan.
Shukkeien's name can be translated into English as shrunken-scenery garden, which is also a good description of the garden itself. Valleys, mountains, and forests are represented in miniature in the garden's landscapes. Through carefully cultivated land and vegetation, the garden mimics a variety of natural formations and scenic views.
Shukkeien has a long history dating back to 1620, just after the completion of Hiroshima Castle. The garden displays many features of the traditional aesthetics of Japanese gardens. Around the garden's main pond there are a number of tea houses which offer visitors ideal views of the surrounding scenery.
It was a little overcast and rainy that weekend. I don't have the means to return at will, so I filmed the garden as is. It came out pretty well considering the drizzle and grey sky.
The pink flowers at the end are not cherry blossoms (Sakura), which blossom mid April... they are plum blossoms. Still very beautiful, and often mistaken for Cherry blossoms (Sakura) , however the distinguishing characteristic is the variety of pinks - some darker, some light. Cherry blossoms (Sakura) are a very light pink to white color.

Hiroshima Shukkei-en Garden - 縮景園 - 4K Ultra HD
Hiroshima Shukkei-en Garden - 縮景園 : Built in 1620 at the order of Asano Nagaakira, a powerful feudal lord (Daimyo) of the Hiroshima clan, the Shukkein-en garden later served as the villa of the Asano family during the Meiji period. Shukkeien, which can be translated into English as shrunken-scenery garden, includes valleys, mountains and forests represented in miniature all across the garden.
It was donated by the Asano family itself to Hiroshima Prefecture in 1940. Unfortunately, lying pretty close to ground zero during the nuclear attack on the city, the garden suffered extensive damage and later became a refuge for the victims of the war. It was only after a long renovation process that the garden reopened to the public in 1951.
Note that only the garden stone bridge featured on this video was still standing after the nuclear blast.

HIROSHIMA ・広島|Okonomiyaki, Castle, Peace Memorial Park & Shukkeien Garden (Japan Travel Vlog #7)
Finally got another vlog uploaded!
Our next stop was in Hiroshima and we took the Shinkansen there from Sendai. On our first night we went to Okonomimura (Okonomiyaki village) and ate delicious okonomiyaki for dinner. The next day we explored the castle, memorial park, and the Shukkeien garden.
I'd say this was one of my favourite cities on this trip and I would definitely recommend anyone to visit there :)
Enjoy!
