????OKILIFE's Missions Statement❗️????
Here at OKILIFE it is our mission to connect you to the amazing experiences taking place all around you every day here in Okinawa and to give you a platform to share those experiences with the world.
Life is a grind. It’s easy to get stuck in a 9 to 5, screen-time overdose mentality. We strive to never take for granted the beautiful island and the exciting things happening all around us in Okinawa every day. Your smartphone is a tool; Use it for a few seconds to connect and see what’s happening in your area, then turn it off and come adventure with us.
This is a special place. You’re not in Japan, and you’re not in America.
You’re in the Okilife Republic.
----- OKILIFE'S RULES ----
1. High energy, laughing, and positivity is non-negotiable.
2. Don’t think outside the box. Think as if there is no box.
3. Don’t make excuses, just make it happen.
4. It’s about progress, not perfection.
5. We create our own economy, not the public market, or circumstances outside of our control.
6. Everything is your fault. Therefore you can fix it, grow, and improve.
7. Take responsibility for your wrongdoings to others and amend them promptly.
8. We are committed to personally developing ourselves financially, physically, and emotionally; always.
9. We are committed to people, not money.
10. Listen in silence (both body and mind) before interjecting.
11. OKILIFE measures success by the impact we have on the world. Not money.

Okinwan Kimono - Naha, Japan Vlog 1
Hello, Muggles!
This is my day 1 vlog in Naha, Okinawa in Japan!
We took a stroll through kokusai-dori to the shopping arcades of Heiwa-dori and Makishi market where I could try Okinawa style kimono - Bingata!
The studio was fantastic - I could choose the kimono I want, they dressed me and did my hair and let me take as many pictures as I wanted for 2,000yen! The name of the studio is Churabijin, you can find more information here -
Next video we head to the beach, be on the look out for my Okinawa vlog 2!
As always, thank you for watching and please subscribe!

Kata Demonstrations - Kokusai Street, Naha City, Okinawa for Karate Day 2019
Names of the kata and karateka will appear over the next few days when I sort them out!
This video is not particularly cinematic, and you get the tops of the heads of the special guests appearing in base of the shot, but hopefully it is useful for those studying traditional Okinawan karate.
How to Restore Rusty Sai Part 2
Follow me on Facebook -
This is part 2 of my tutorial on how to treat rust on natural steel sai. I shot more footage than I could use for both episodes. Stay tuned for a bonus tutorial - How to Rewrap Your Sai HD. (I've demonstrated this before in an older video)
How to Carry Sai
Here's a basic explanation and demonstration of how to carry sai tucked in the obi (belt). Mind you, the ufuchiku (Okinawan policemen) didn't wear the kinds of belts that we do today in modern karate/kobudo. The traditional Okinawan belt was much wider and the ends of the belt didn't hang below the waist. (Similar to the belts worn by these festival performers
The mainland policemen of feudal Japan carried tessen (single pronged truncheon) that was either tucked in their belts on the side or behind their back, much like the Okinawan policemen wore their sai.
In my video, I demonstrate two ways to tuck sai into the obi. 1) Two sai on the side. And 2) One sai behind the back. Notice, that I have a total of four sai tucked in my belt. This was done for demonstration purposes only. Traditionally, usually a total of three sai might have been carried by ufuchiku. Two was the normal number.

Okinawa Video Clip 1
Here is the first of several clips I will be posting from our trip to Okinawa.
Asato Dojo, Naha City, Okinawa - Fitness Training
makiwara practice
makiwara practice. the post itself was purchased from shureido. i've padded it with 2 sheets of rubber that are 1/8 and 1/16 (i.e. for a total of 3/16), and then taped it on with scotch tape. the leather cover that shureido provides is too soft for my liking.
since some of you may be wondering: yes, my makiwara is kept in my apartment. i didn't show it on the video, but the post is inserted in a metal bracket (also purchased from shureido). the bracket is installed on a wooden platform that's something like 4' x 3', iirc. i built the platform myself--or rather, a friend did it for me. mathematicians have no business trying to build shit. and although it doesn't sound like it in the video, it actually does make a lot of noise, which tends to piss off my neighbors (especially the girls who live downstairs). but when you have a punch like mine, do you think anyone's going to argue? :p
i've hit the makiwara about 120x each side since september, maybe 5-6 days a week. i'm aware that my form is not perfect. i know what most of my mistakes are, but nevertheless, questions and criticisms welcome. apparently my camera ran out of memory before i finished, but i was almost done anyway. filmed on 8/1/10 in palo alto, ca.
music is from my ipod. kanye west, all falls down; the game ft 50 cent, hate it or love it; cam'ron, wet wipes; cam'ron, oh boy; styles p, good times. no copyright infringement intended.
