(Susa is one of the oldest-known settlements of the region and indeed the world, possibly founded about 4200 BC.
Susa is also mentioned in the Ketuvim of the Hebrew Bible, mainly in Esther, but also once each in Nehemiah and Daniel. Both Daniel and Nehemiah lived in Susa during the Babylonian captivity of Judah of the 6th century BC. Esther became queen there, and saved the Jews from genocide. A tomb presumed to be that of Daniel is located in the area, known as Shush-Daniel.)

Alamut Castle in Iran
Alamut Castle was a mountain-top fortress built over 1000 years ago roughly 100 km northwest of present-day Tehran. Only a small portion of the castle is currently open for visitors, as archaeological work is ongoing, but the view from up top is still fantastic. Although little remains today, it was once a very secure fortress and the nearby countryside is filled with interesting geological formations.
If you’re interested in hiking, Alamut Castle and the surrounding area offers many breathtaking hiking routes.

Note: Due to timing constraints you may want to pause the video at times for the scene descriptions
Susa (Shush) is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, continuously inhabited cities in the world. 1st city/state civilization was established in Susa around 8000 years ago. This makes Susa (Iran) civilization older than Egypt. Susa is a world Heritage Site(WHS)
Susa was destroyed completely several times during the course of its history, but Alexander the (not so) Great brought the worst destruction upon Susa when he attacked the Persian Empire. To top it off, the French who helped and excavated the site of the Darius the Great palace in 1890s made a deal with the Qajar government of Iran to take any stonework findings to France but leave the Silver and gold artifacts behind. That is why if you want to see Susa’s heritage, you must visit the Louvre as well.
Today, there’s not much left at the site, but the remains of Dur Untash (Chogha-Zanbil) Ziggurat (temple) still stands after 4,500 years. Chogha-Zanbil is a WHS as well
