我們在台灣 WE ARE IN TAIWAN
我總共花了半年的時間拍攝這部短片,為了節省支出,我甚至在三更半夜騎著機車在山裡跑只為了拍一些需要的畫面。這部影片代表的是我對台灣上的這片土地的愛戀。
Taiwan is my home. This short film presents how deeply i love my home, Taiwan.

Taiwanese Opera. Boss Fight!
I went to see some Taiwanese Opera last week. This was the longest video I took, and was a fight scene that just did not seem to end! Very exciting, and displays all I loved about the show, including the amazing and detailed costumes.
Chen Fen Lan – Meet in Taipei 相逢在台北 陳芬蘭 1981
A song from Chen Fen Lan's 1981 album Night Rain on Lige Records AK 1259. I have no idea what the lyrics are saying because I could not find the lyrics online, and unfortunately, I do not understand a word of Chinese. However the lyrics are printed on the rear sleeve of the LP, and you can view them in my video which you will see I still enjoyed making. If you are able to understand this song, I would appreciate your sharing with non Chinese speakers on the song thread. :o) It's always sad for me to share a song when I am unable to find out what the song is about. It's certainly a lovely song, and is set in Taiwan, a country I love dearly. A 2nd LP was released the same year, on Victory Organisation Records of Singapore MLP-2374. This LP is a selection of Chen Fen Lan songs – 2nd Series - which includes Meet in Taipei. There was a cd release of Night Rain in 2016.
Chen Fen Lan was born in Taiwan in 1948. She made her first recording at the age of eight The Wish of the Orphan Girl. She participated in several singing competitions and won many championships. At the age of nine, with the Asian Record Company in Tainan, the first release of The Wish of Orphans was launched. A film company immediately invited her to star in the movie of the same name. Chen Fen Lan also sang Happy Sail and English Classroom and other light songs. These can be heard on her early albums from 1958 and 1959.
Two years after graduating from elementary school, at the age of 14, she went to Japan for further studies and transferred to Hong Kong to complete secondary school. She officially released a record in Japan. After returning to Taiwan, she turned from Taiwanese music to the development of Mandarin music. Then she went to Washington State University in Seattle to read the mass communication, and later formed a fan club in Tokyo to teach Japanese friends to understand Chinese culture.
Chen Fen Lan was the first Taiwanese singer to go to Japan ... the first of so many. The Taiwan Apple Daily reported that she was the original singer of The Moon Represents My Heart made so famous later by Teresa Teng. Chen FenLan's version is on her 1973 LP AK 915. She became known as Taiwan's beautiful skylark. She recorded 25 LPs and at least 7 EPs from 1968 onwards with 19 of the LPs before 1973.
has Chen Fenlan aged 10 singing Happy Sailing, written by her uncle Chen Fentang. Many thanks to Xiami for this recording, and continued thanks to the subscribers who support the threads and show their appreciation of the uploads. It all helps me to keep the History of Chinese Popular Music project going. Nearly 90 years of some pretty amazing music.
Sorry ... no lyrics or translation included on this occasion. Just a beautiful song to hear.
臺灣歌仔戲-梨園春曉 A New Spring for Taiwan's Ke Tse Opera #3
Ke-tse Opera is Taiwan's only totally indigenous opera. On the nativity of various deities or during religious festivals, temples will often hire a troupe of ke-tse opera performers to put on a show. It is believed that through opera such as Eight Drunken Immortals and The Heavenly Official Gives a Blessing in which deities are portrayed, people are able to express their gratitude to the gods and ask for continued good fortune, In this way, ke-tse opera became a channel of communication between the human and the spirit worlds. Ke-tse opera does not only have a religious function. Through the last century, it has portrayed many aspects of life, and incorporates crude humor with the sorrow of the Weeping Melody and the traditional and contemporary styles of clowning of the hu-pei-tse opera, bringing laughter and tears to generation after generation of audiences. Ultimately it is not just a kind of opera, but an expression of the vitality of Taiwanese

Taiwanese Song-play (Opera) 2
This clip is from a local Taiwanese Opera (Song-play) troupe called Six Sisters out of Kaohsiung performing at a Taoist Temple in Pingtung, Taiwan on Oct. 27, 2010. I will add translations later. In the clip the actor in black is playing a male character. This clip is a duet. The other clip is a short duologue/improvisation.
The language is Taiwanese, not Mandarin Chinese. Taiwanese is a local language that came originally from Southern China. It is not a dialect of Mandarin, although because it is an oral only language, it uses Mandarin characters when writing is required.
The audience is made up of local Taiwanese who do not pay to see the play, which is performed in honor of a particular god. The performances used to be much more popular with the local people as a kind of entertainment, but in the last 10 years, television and the internet have resulted in the sharp decline of interested locals, hence most of the audience are elderly people and small children.

SUMMARY
=======
Hokkien (; from Chinese: 福建話; pinyin: Fújiànhuà; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Hok-kiàn-ōe) or Minnan Proper (閩南語/闽南话), is a Southern Min Chinese dialect group originating from the Minnan region in the south-eastern part of Fujian Province in Southeastern China and Taiwan, and spoken widely there and by the Chinese diaspora in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and other parts of Southeast Asia, and by other overseas Chinese all over the world. It is the mainstream form of Southern Min.
It is closely related to Teochew, though it has limited mutual intelligibility with it, whereas it is more distantly related to other variants such as Hainanese and Leizhou dialect.
Hokkien historically served as the lingua franca amongst overseas Chinese communities of all dialects and subgroups in Southeast Asia, and remains today as the most spoken variety of Chinese in the region, including in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and some parts of Indochina (particularly Thailand, Laos and Cambodia). The Betawi Malay language, spoken by some five million people in and around the Indonesian capital Jakarta, includes numerous Hokkien loanwords due to the significant influence of the Chinese Indonesian diaspora, most of whom are of Hokkien ancestry and origin.
Tseng Noodles - Hu Sesame Flavor 曾拌麵 胡蔴醬香 ft. Uncle Shrimp Dried Shrimps 蝦叔叔 大尾蝦酥
I was a bit skeptic about the thin noodles of Tseng Noodles - Hu Sesame Flavor 曾拌麵 胡蔴醬香 , but decided to give it a try... and was very surprised when I removed the noodles out into the bowl... The noodles are so chewy!!! Very very nice... In fact, this Tseng Noodles - Hu Sesame Flavor 曾拌麵 胡蔴醬香 is now my 3rd place (the top 2 joint positions are the other Tseng scallion noodles and Mom's mala noodles)... Sesame fragrance is strong, and can see tiny bits of the sesame paste covering the noodles after mixing... Very very nice... I added some Uncle Shrimp Dried Shrimps 蝦叔叔 大尾蝦酥 to enhance the meal... The dried shrimp crisps packed a powerful punch of shrimp flavour, but to call the shrimps 大尾 ... well.... take a look at some of the shrimps' sizes in the video, you'll be the judge, hahaha... Visit for my other blog on mostly eating and food stuff. Thanks for watching!
