Russia in Pre-Revolutionary photographa - Irkutsk
Дореволюционная Россия на фотографиях - Иркутск
Here I present an album of Pre-Revolutionary photographs of the Siberian city of Irkutsk.
In the early 19th century, many Russian artists, officers, and nobles were sent into exile in Siberia for their part in the Decembrist revolt against Tsar Nicholas I. Irkutsk became the major centre of intellectual and social life for these exiles, and much of the city's cultural heritage comes from them; many of their wooden houses, adorned with ornate, hand-carved decorations, survive today, in stark contrast with the standard Soviet apartment blocks that surround them..... I was here in 2008 and was surprised to see how much of the pre-revolutionary buildings survive to this day.

Hello Friends,
In this video, i have started my journey from Astana International Airport after small layover of around 4 hours. Flight time from Astana to Omsk, Siberia Russia is just about 50 minutes.
Weather in Omsk was quite pleasant as it was around 20 degree C. As soon as i landed in Russia, i was amazed by such kind people who are always there to help. I found people keen to help at every point of my journey in Russia.
From Omsk airport, i used bus service to travel to my hostel that i have booked online via booking.com. I had to change 2 buses to reach to my hostel and all this was possible only because of the help that i got from local Russian people.
Russian is the language that is mostly spoken all over Russia and its hard to find people with English speaking skills easily but still i am amazed that inspite of this, Russian people are so warmth and have best hospitality qualities. I met one lady who helped me from airport specially to reach to my hostel.
There are unlimited instances that i can count of the greatness of the Russian people.
Please watch the entire video and i hope you will like the video and please do share and subscribe to my channel for more future updates.

The great Siberian city of Omsk was established in 1716 when a Cossack wooden fort was constructed here in order to protect the interests of the expanding Russian Empire...
By 1782, Omsk was granted town status and by 1822 had become the administrative capital of Western Siberia.
With the continued expansion of the Empire, the military importance of Omsk diminished. Becoming a major centre of the Siberian exile. From 1850 to 1854 Fyodor Dostoyevsky served his sentence in an Omsk katorga prison.
With the coming of the Trans-Siberian railway, there fortunes of the town once more grew! Many trade companies established stores and offices in Omsk defining the character of the city centre. British, Dutch, and German consulates were established roughly at the same time in order to represent their commercial interests. The pinnacle of development for pre-revolutionary Omsk was the Siberian Exposition of Agriculture and Industry in 1910. Popularity of the World Fairs contributed to the image of Omsk as the Chicago of Siberia.....
Pskov - the largest stone fortress in Europe. / Псков - крупнейшая каменная крепость в Европе.
Pskov is a city (since 903) on the North-West of Russia, the administrative center of the Pskov region and the Pskov area, located at the confluence of the Velikaya and the Pskova rivers.
Pskov — one of the oldest Russian cities, first mentioned in the Laurentian chronicle under the year 903. In 1348-1510 years — the capital of the independent Pskov Republic. In 1510 attached to the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Until the early eighteenth century, Pskov was one of the largest cities of Russia and Europe, the most important defensive and commercial centre of the country. Pskov fortress was the fortress of the five rings (three of which are preserved to this day), making the Pskov virtually impregnable. Throughout its long history of Pskov has become a centre of reference for major fighting, but was captured only once, not counting the occupation during both world wars. After the founding of St. Petersburg Pskov lost its dominant position on the Western borders of the country, and after the end of the Northern war, the border had shifted far to the West and Russia moved to Riga and revel (now Tallinn), the value of Pskov as a trading and defensive point finally fell. During the great Patriotic war the city three years was occupied by Germany, during this time, killed 3.5 thousand civilians. In December 2009, Pskov was awarded the title City of military glory. The history of Pskov is connected with Princess Olga, in baptism Helen (C. 920 — July 11, 969) — Princess, born on the Pskov earth, who ruled the old Russian state from 945 to 960 years after the death of her husband, the Grand Duke of Kiev of Igor the Old. The first ruler of Russia adopted Christianity before the baptism of Russia, Holy equal to the apostles Russian Orthodox Church; memory: 11 (24) July and in Cathedrals of Kiev, Pskov and Volyn saints.
The population of the city Pskov — 208 145 people (2016).
Pskov is an important tourist center of the Pskov region and the North-West of Russia. Trinity Cathedral, Pskov fortress, Mirozhsky monastery, pogankiny chamber, a number of ancient churches of Pskov are included in the list of cultural heritage of the Russian Federation.
Krasnodar is the southern capital of Russia/Краснодар южная столица России
The city of Krasnodar is administrative center of Krasnodar Krai, a major economic and cultural center of the North Caucasus and southern Federal districts, the center of the historical and geographic area Kuban. Krasnodar is often informally referred to as the capital of Kuban and the Southern capital of Russia. The name of the city of Ekaterinodar received as a gift of the Kuban land from Empress Catherine II to the Black Sea Cossack army, who served here. The City was founded in 1793 as a military settlement of the Black Sea Cossacks, and later the fortress. “Ekaterinodar” means “gift of Catherine” in English.
According to the latest archeological studies (West Caucasian archeological expedition) the Meotian settlement surrounded by the wall of IV-III century B.C. was discovered near the current Park municipal garden in the central part of Krasnodar.
The bank of the Kuban river in the vicinity of Krasnodar ( the territory of the village of Elizavetinskaya) was the location of the ancient city of the Bosporan Kingdom with the fortified walls. Gradually the city's role is no longer confined exclusively to the military settlement. In 1860 the settlement obtained the title of administrative centre of the newly formed Kuban Region, and the city status was conferred to Ekaterinodar in 1867. In the 70-80-ies of the XIX century, with the opening of the railway in the North Caucasus (Tikhoretsk — Ekaterinodar — Novorossiysk), the city became a major commercial, industrial, and transportation center of the North Caucasus region.
During World War 2, August 9, 1942, Krasnodar was occupied by German fascist invaders, who destroyed thousands of residents of Krasnodar in the movable gas chambers. 870 homes in the city were destroyed and burned. 4 higher educational institutions, equipment of laboratories and libraries, theaters of drama and musical Comedy, the Palace of pioneers, almost all the schools, clubs, cinemas were burned. The most valuable tree species in city parks was cut down and damaged. February 12, 1943 the city was liberated by the Red Army.
In south-eastern part of the Krasnodar located reservoir, built in 1973 for the implementation of production and reclamation activities.
Krasnodar is one of the largest economic centers in the world, included in the list of City-600 and The Best Russian city for business by the magazine Forbes. The main areas are engineering and Metalworking, production of building materials, garments and knitwear, furniture, tobacco products, food and agricultural products. A new future awaits the Russian Arctic and the Ministry for Development of the Far East will supervise the creation of this future.
