Sibiu, Romania is a Translylvania city that needs to be explored. Today we walk around town exploring to show you a glimpse into what this place is all about. Sibiu is a European Captial of Culture, and it sits on the West part of Romaia a few hours drive from Hungary. This medieval town dates back to the 12th century. Let's take a walk around Sibiu where the houses have eyes that watch you and the bridges listen to make sure you aren't lying.

In 2007 Sibiu was designated as the European Capital of Culture and is ranked as one of the most idyllic places to live in Europe.
The first record of Sibiu comes from 1191 and during the 14th century it rose to prominence as an important trade center in the region.
For the Germans who were sent to settle the Transylvanian frontier, known as the Transylvania Saxons, it was their most important city. It wasn't until after World War 1, when the Austro-Hungarian Empire was dissolved, that Sibiu officially became part of the Romanian state.
Today, Sibiu is one of the best places to visit in Romania and one of the most beautiful cities in Transylvania. It has been wonderfully preserved and it's like taking a step back in time as you walk through the narrow streets and stare up in awe at the architecture of the Old Town Square.

Take a tour of Town of Sibiu in Sibiu, Romania -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Sibiu, situated in the heart of Romania, is a large city with a historic foundation.
It is divided into two main sections: the older Lower Town and the Upper Town. The old town dates back to the twelfth century and still has buildings from that time.
Sibiu was once a fortified city and some of its walls and towers still stand.
The Upper Town is newer and features the Grand Square, named for obvious reasons.
The city has a great collection of museums and medieval buildings, and is quite beautiful.

Municipiul Sibiu a reprezentat și reprezintă unul dintre cele mai importante și înfloritoare orașe din Transilvania, fiind unul dintre principalele centre ale coloniștilor sași stabiliți în zonă. Orașul a fost capitală a Transilvaniei între anii 1692-1791 și 1849-1865. A cunoscut în ultimii ani o renaștere economică și culturală semnificativă. Sibiul este în prezent unul dintre orașele cu cel mai mare nivel de investiții străine din România. În anul 2007 a fost Capitala Culturală Europeană, împreună cu orașul Luxemburg.

Located some 215 km (134 mi) northwest of Bucharest, the city straddles the Cibin River, a tributary of the river Olt. Now the capital of Sibiu County, between 1692 and 1791 and 1849–65 Sibiu was the capital of the Principality of Transylvania, until 1920 it belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary.
Sibiu is one of the most important cultural centers of Romania and was designated the European Capital of Culture for the year 2007, along with the city of Luxembourg. Formerly the center of the Transylvanian Saxons, the old city of Sibiu was ranked as Europe's 8th-most idyllic place to live by Forbes in 2008.

The small square in Sibiu has parking and lots of cafes to sit at, while the larger main square was the merchant centre of this pretty little medieval town, here you will find the Council Tower and Sibiu Cathedral which was under renovation when I visited.
Other points of interest include the bridge of lies or liars bridge which is popular with lovers since it is said to vibrate if they tell a lie to each other, and meanwhile the windows in the rooftops of nearby buildings look like eyes watching you, a feature to be found in many of the buildings in this area of Romania.
