Bhaktapur Durbar Square in Bhaktapur in Nepal //The Naga Pokhari Sadashiva Bhairab Chowk.
The Naga Pokhari or Naga Phuku basin-fountain in the Sadashiva Bhairab Chowk at Bhaktapur Durbar Square in Bhaktapur in Nepal. There is miniature temple near the snake idol in the water reservoir.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square the city is also known, is a museum of medieval art and architecture with many examples of sculpture, woodcarving and colossal pagoda temples consecrated to different gods and goddesses which is 15 km far from Kathmandu. It is a conglomeration of pagoda and shikhara-style temples grouped around a fifty-five window palace of brick and wood. The square is one of the most charming architectural showpieces of the Valley as it highlights the ancient arts of Nepal. The golden effigies of kings perched on the top of stone monoliths, the guardian deities looking out from their sanctuaries, the wood carvings in every place-struts, lintels, uprights, tympanums, gateways and windows-all seem to form a well-orchestrated symphony. Pottery and weaving are its major traditional industries.
haktapur is known variously as City of Culture, Living Heritage, Nepal’s Cultural Gem, An open museum and a City of Devotees.
It is just 12 kilometers east of Kathmandu, but gives the feeling of prehistoric times given the ambiance of traditional homes, lifestyles and environment. The conch shaped historic city is spreading over just an area of 6.88 square kilometer at 1,401 meter altitude. The city was founded in 12th century by King Anand Dev Malla. Bhaktapur was the capital city of the Greater Malla Kingdom in the Kathmandu Valley till the 15th century AD. The many of Bhaktapur‘s greatest monuments were built by the then Malla rulers.
Bhaktapur has more temples per square foot than Patan or Kathmandu and is far enough out of town to keep the crowds away. Unfortunately, the city has been severely damaged by the 7.9 Magnitude Earthquake on 25th of April, 2015 whose epicenter was about 90 kms NW of Bhaktapur. Many buildings and historical temples, including some in the Bhaktapur Durbar Square collapsed.

Siddha Pokhari, is a beautiful pond situated at Dudhpati-17 the entrance of the ancient city Bhaktapur. This pond was built around six hundred years ago; during the reign of Medieval King Yakshya Malla.
On the auspicious occasion of Ashwin Krishna Dwitiya (the next day of Indra Jatra), hundreds of devotees gather around the #SiddhaPokhari . They take holy dips in the pond and worship goddess Indrayani, (They believe that their worship pleases the goddess and their family get happiness and her blessings). On the very day, the Sidddha Pokhari is decorated with oil lamps all around its boundary. There are statues of Shaiva, Shakti, Buddhists and Baishnav sects from Lichhavi to Malla Times surrounding the Temple. There is also a tradition of worshipping Basuki Nag (Serpent god) as provisions in Tantric way. (It is especially done in droughts; It is believed Worshipping Bashuki Nag brings rain in droughts.)
Other very enchanting and beautiful views in the Pokhari are its fishes. Friends, family members with children come here to enjoy the pleasure of feeding the numerous fishes in the pond.
