The Sierra Silver Mine | Wallace, Idaho (Vlog)
The Sierra Silver Mine in Wallace Idaho, the center of the universe! About an hour East of Coeur d’Alene, Wallace Idaho claimed themselves as the center of the universe in 2004. So you can imagine the vibe of this town. It’s a bunch of fun, and a bunch of people that don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s also a town with a ton of history. Founded 135 years ago in 1884, Wallace rests in the Coeur d’Alene mining district, a district that produced more silver than any other district in the United States. The history of mining culture in Wallace is what makes the Sierra Silver Mine tour such a fun and unique experience. The Sierra Silver Mine tour is the second most popular tour in Idaho. What’s the first? Watch the video and see!
Go underground in a real mine, with a real miner as your guide, and get a feel for what it was like to live as a miner during the Idaho silver boom. If you don’t have the hour and a half it takes to hop on the trolly and take the tour, you can stop by their historic office in Downtown Wallace. Equipped with its own ice cream parlor.
The mine is chilly so bring a jacket. Open 7 days a week from May 1st through October 15th. Check the website for more details like hours of operation. It’s best to call ahead of time to reserve your spot on a tour, but they do allow walk-ins.

Walk through the historic Idaho mining ghost town of Silver City | Exploring Idaho 360
Silver City sprang up out of the Owyhee Mountains when silver and gold was discovered there in the 1860s. For nearly three decades it thrived as one of the biggest mountain mining towns in southern Idaho. When the precious metals dried up, the people moved out and by World War 2 it was all but abandoned. But Silver City has survived and looks almost the same as it did 150 years ago. Take a 360 tour of Idaho’s Silver City ghost town and see the mining town as it was in its heyday. Full story:

C-SPAN Cities Tour - Coeur d'Alene: Silver Mining in the Coeur d'Alene Mining District
Discover silver mining in the Coeur d'Alene Mining District, which is one of the richest metal mining areas in the world. Hear about the current state of mining and how the area around Coeur d'Alene produces more silver than any other place in the country.
Wallace, Idaho
Wallace is located in the heart of Idaho's silver mining region, and the area has produced more silver than any other mining district in the United States. The area saw a lot of contention between miners and the mine owners - the Army had to come in a couple times to settle things down.
I-90 was built through Wallace on a raised viaduct. The original proposal called for a surface level highway, but that would have destroyed much of the city. Local leaders were able to get downtown Wallace designated as the Wallace Historic District, which spared the historic heart of the city. Minig is still done in the area, but Wallace now draws tourists for the city itself and for access to nearby mountains, trails and lakes.
The Photos (in order)
S05A0124 - The Northern Pacific Railroad Depot now serves as a railroad museum

W12A0056 - This sculpture of a Silver Valley mining family is located on the grounds of the Wallace Visitor Center along with a lot of mining equipment
W12A0071 - Visitors can pose for pictures inside this small spaceship, located in front of the Red Light Garage; I like the retro Stardust Motel sign, too
W12A0075 - The Oasis Bordello Museum highlight a part of Wallace's history; although the building looks older, the bordello was in operation until the 1970s, so much of the interior features a classic 70s look
W12A0083 - Wallace Mayor Ron Gariton declared the town to be the center of the universe after getting too much attention from the EPA for his tastes; a sewer cover in the intersection of Bank and 6th Streets marks the exact location

S05A0101 - Further up the road is Cooper Pass, where one can access several hiking trails, including the Stateline Trail with views of Pear Lake

Swift Silver Mine - Bill Gibson Discusses his ordeal In finding the coins
Legendary treasure hunter Bill Gibson talks in front of a group about his trip into the cave where he found kegs of the famous Swift Silver coins. After negotiating an underwater passage and resurfacing on the other side Bill's claim is that he had to walk dangerous narrow ledges, walking the stream inside for miles before finding a suitable spot to camp for the night. Bill states that he would spend days inside the cave over the weekend and come back home early Monday morning.
I do not own this video and pay all respects to its contributors this is only a re-post to share the information among other Swift Silver Mine enthusiasts,

Clayton Idaho Mine As Is Left Behind Full Video Tour Closes 1986
This Clayton Idaho Mine seems too be pretty ghostly, its like everyone just up and left at the same time and left everything behind. This mine was one of the largest producers of silver and lead in the Bayhorse Mining District of Custer County, Idaho. The mine and milling facility operated between 1935 and 1985 and produced about 6.7 million ounces of silver and 83.5 million pounds of lead. The mine also produced a small amount of gold and copper and a substantial amount of zinc during its 50-year operational period. The mine closed in 1986 due to low silver prices and the high cost of dewatering the mine after the 1983 Borah Peak earthquake.

This is the only footage I managed to shoot while down at the mine. I wanted to get several videos out but Murphy's Law has it's way of hitting me pretty hard.
