Siffleur Falls Hike Alberta | Backcountry Forward
Siffleur Falls is considered by some to be one of Alberta's most underrated hikes! Come see the stunning varied trail to Siffleur Falls.
We hiked to Siffleur Falls at the end of November, but were presented with weather more similar to Autumn than winter. This allowed us to get amazing footage of the trail and a semi-frozen Siffleur Falls. This hike is an easy to moderate hike located just beyond Abraham Lake in the beautiful David Thompson Country just west of Nordegg Alberta. The trail takes you through some diverse terrain, from windswept montane on a boardwalk, over Alberta's longest pedestrian suspension bridge, along a stunning canyon, through forest, to the stunning Siffleur Falls. We stopped at the first falls, but beyond them the trail skirts the river through the forest before walking along the creek bed in the canyon to the second and third falls.
Siffleur Falls is a very family friendly Alberta hike, and great for all ages, especially up to the first falls (which are by far the most magnificent). Most people turn around at this point and venture back for around a 2-3 hour return hike. Up to the third falls extends the 4km trek to an 8km (16km return) day hike.
CAUTION!!!!
Overall, Siffleur Falls is a must-see hike. However, PLEASE use extreme caution, and keep children nearby and pets on a leash at all times. Many hikers have lost their lives on this trail because of a lack of caution or trying to save a pet, as we discuss in the video. Nearing the canyon and gorges it is easy to get too close to what looks rather unassuming, but one misstep and tragedy can strike, as the various memorials on this hike can attest to.

Crescent Falls Alberta | Frozen Winter Wonderland
See the beautiful Crescent Falls frozen and covered in ice! The hike to see this world renown set of falls is simply exquisite in winter!
We journeyed out to Crescent Falls Alberta for some winter hiking and it was well worth it! We had the entire falls to ourselves, not a tourist in sight (except for us). The waterfalls were covered in ice with water still flowing beneath. If you go to Crescent Falls in winter make sure to bring crampons so you can easily walk on the ice without slipping.
Crescent Falls Directions:
If you’re coming from Edmonton, take Highway 11 West from Rocky Mountain House, through Nordegg until you get to Abraham Lake. If you’re coming from Calgary it’s faster to drive through Banff National Park until you get to Highway 11. It's a 3.5hr drive from Edmonton and a 4hr drive from Calgary. Crescent Falls is located 3kms off the David Thompson Highway (Highway 11) at the end of Crescent Falls Campground road.

Hiking the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve to Siffleur Falls
In this episode, we hike the Kootenay Plains Ecological Reserve to the Siffleur River Falls and Canyon. The views were incredible but a bit much for this old man with arthritis.
Our road trip continues with a trip to BC tomorrow to see Rogers Pass and to hike and old growth Hemlock stand.
Our Stella, the Stealth Camper has been awesome, providing us with shelter, comfort and a little place to call home.

Siffleur Falls - David Thompson Country
Sunny Saturday hike along Siffleur River and Siffleur Falls. We did not get to the two falls above the first ones. Thanks for watching and i hope you enjoy our hike.
Siffler Falls Trail June 2015
Siffleur Falls Hike David Thompson Country
Siffleur Falls trailhead is located on the Kootenay Plains next to the David Thompson Highway (#11) 210km west of Rocky Mountain House. A 4.5 hour drive from Edmonton, 3.5 hours from Calgary. If you're traveling from Calgary the route through the National Parks is shorter then heading through Rocky Mountain House. Allow 4.5 hours return to the farthest 3rd set of falls, approximate elevation gain is 146m. Park at the Siffleur Falls staging area then follow the well worn trail down to the North Saskatchewan River. Cross the very long suspension bridge over the north Saskatchewan River then follow the long wooden boardwalk. This area is very dry and sensitive to wind erosion. Over time one footprint can lead to a large wind blown hole. Once you're across the boardwalk the trail leads down a wide gravel road for a short distance then across Siffleur River bridge. Keep on the trail until you reach the Siffleur Falls view point, approximately 4km from the start. Most people turn around at Siffleur Falls viewpoint but there is still another two sets of waterfalls further up the trail. There is no need to get close to the canyon edge as the trail provides several nice viewing areas. Believe the posted 'dangerous slopes' signs, several people have lost their lives here.
One brave individual tried to save his dog near the rock ledge above Siffleur Falls, unfortunately both we're drowned. The second set of falls is another 2.5km further up the trail. This set of falls can only be viewed from the open view points located on the trail. From here keep going along the canyon trail for another 1.5km until it drops down towards the last set of falls. There is small camp site here and a few inuksuk's. You can sit next to the rivers edge and have lunch.
There are several hiking trails located in this area. To mention a few, Alexander Henry's Trail, Crescent Falls Hike, Hoodoo Creek Hike, Kinglet Lake Hike, Loudon Creek Hike, Two O'clock Ridge Hike, Tuff Puff, Vision Quest Hike, Windy Point Ridge, Allstones Creek Hike, Allstones Lake Hike, Ice Falls Two O'clock Creek, Coral Ridge Hike, Big Whirlpool & Whirlpool Ridge, Owen Creek, Cline and Coral Canyons are all located near here.
You are in bear country.

This is a bit longer than my normal videos as it had a great deal of footage to work with. If your patient there is some black bear footage hidden away within the presentation. You will find some tight flying between canyon rock walls and extremely close to the water falls.

Kayak - South Ram River: Ram Falls to North Saskatchewan River
July 30-Aug 1 2019, 3 day solo trip down the South Ram river. One of the area's most remote multi day paddles. Once you're in, you're in.
Waterfalls, ledges, open canyons, closed canyons, remote, scenic and full of challenges! Even playing it safe around anything looking sticky was often quite the challenge due to terrain!
Hiking Siffleur Falls, Camping at Cline River
One day in early June 2018, we decided we needed to see Siffleur Falls, everyone says how beautiful it is. So we packed Cosley the Adventure Dog into the car and headed down early in the morning to check out one of the most popular spots along the David Thompson Highway. It lived up to the hype but we still weren't satisfied so we grabbed our bags and hiked in for one night along the Cline River as well. It was a great little trip and we hope you want to come along...
