morocco countryside tours
the itinerary for the day is:
The day is dedicated to discover the oriental Sahara desert. We will drive through the desert on a 4×4, visiting the nomads, oases and dunes at Erg Chebbi. We also go to the village of the dark-skinned people named Khamlia and enjoy the original music and folk songs of the Gnawas.and visit Rissani, the last major city of about 40km west of Erg Chebbi. Rissani itself is very interesting. From 8 to 14 century it was a separate kingdom, known as Sijilmassa, prosperous of the caravan routes and visit market - souk, interesting in that it is not tourist souk, but for the people living there. 3 times a week is the market with sheep and donkeys. From there back to the hotel. Camel ride at sunset and overnight stay in a Berber tent in the heart of Erg Chebbi dunes.

Morocco Drive: Dades Valley to Merzouga, Berber Country
Experience driving in big sky and dry, desert Berber country in Morocco as we leave the Dades Valley for a 200+ km drive to Merzouga. We’ll travel on Route N10 through Tinghir and then N113 a more isolated but smooth road. We’ll pass Alnif and see a mass of students on bicycles. Due to rain, rivers raged and some parts of roads going over rivers became either impassable or under water. In our little car, we experience a swimming car. We almost reach Merzouga until the road is closed to cars. Finding an SUV to take us over, the SUV has to travel on a water-covered road for 3-4 KM and this in a desert. Amazing. You will probably never see Merzouga like this in years.

Camel trip in Erg Chebbi desert
Erg Chebbi is one of Morocco's two Saharan ergs – large seas of dunes formed by wind-blown sand.
The other is Erg Chigaga near M'hamid.
The dunes of Erg Chebbi reach a height of up to 150 meters in places and altogether spans an area of 50 kilometers from north to south and up to 5–10 kilometers from east to west lining the Algerian border.
The nearest sizable town is Erfoud, about 60 kilometers further north. One other city is Rissani, around 40 kilometers from Merzouga, and from the 8th to the 14th century there was a separate kingdom, known as Sijilmassa, which was prosperous owing to former caravan routes.
Although rainfall is very brief and uncommon, in 2006 flooding adjacent to the dunes destroyed many buildings and killed three people
