Hiking Silver Creek | Summit MetroParks | Norton, OH
Silver Creek, in Norton, OH, is maintained by Summit Metroparks. It has two hiking trails, a bridle trail, an archery range, and a cross-country skiing trail course. It also has and a swimming area & boat launch on Silver Creek Lake.
The two hiking trails, Chippewa and Pheasant Run can be combined in a loop that totals 3.3 miles. The trails are well-maintained double track with little elevation change, and few obstacles such as rocks and rocks and roots, which makes for an easy hike. The trails take hikers through a variety of habitats, including deciduous and coniferous forests, open fields, marches, and ponds. The video highlights some of the beautiful scenery that the trails have to offer.
This hike follows the Chippewa trail from the Pheasant Run Shelter parking lot, and then continues along the Pheasant Run trail, which loops around to the shelter parking lot.

Hiking Adam Run Trail | Hampton Hills Metro Parks | Summit County Metro Parks | Akron, OH
Hampton Hills is part of the Summit Metroparks system. It has two hiking trails, an archery range, and a mountain biking area in designated sections of the park.
This video takes viewer along Adam Run Trail, a moderately challenging 3 mile hike in the Cuyahoga Valley. The trail first follows alongside Adam Run, with several creek crossings, before a 200 foot ascent to the valley rim.
The trail then proceeds for about 1/4 mile through a forest heavily populated by pine trees that were planted by local Girl Scout troops in the 1960's. The forest then gives way to several open fields before arriving at a short path to Top 'o the World, which is former farmland containing a preserved barn.
The last leg of Adam Run winds along several rolling hills until it descends about 150 feet (including a long set of stairs) back to the trailhead.

Hiking Sand Run & Cascade Valley | Dogwood to Schumacher Trail | Summit Metroparks | Akron, OH
The Sand Run and Cascade Valley Areas of the Summit Metroparks are connected via a set of trails. It's the perfect storm for a Mega Day Hike, which is the cool-sounding name I just made up for a day hike that traverses the full length, or large sections, of multiple trails.
The Mega Day Hike featured in this video begins at the Dogwood Trail in Sand Run Metropark. The Dogwood Trail is a short (1.8 miles) but challenging hike, with tight switchbacks at the beginning, as hikers descend into the valley, and a steep climb out of the valley at the end. The Dogwood Trail follows the same path as the Buckeye Trail for short ways in the valley floor. When they fork, Dogwood ascends out of the valley, while the Buckeye Trail continues along the valley floor.
The Buckeye Trail continues along the rest of eastern portion of the Sand Run valley. Once it crosses Portage Path Road, it connects with the Valley Link Trail, portion of which has pullup bars, a sit up area and other Parcours stations for those inclined to get in some extra exercise. Following the Valley Link eastward takes hikers along a portion of the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail and over the Cuyahoga River via a bridge, until it connects with the Schumacher portion of the Cascade Valley.
The Schumacher area is one of the only areas in the Akron vicinity that has never seen any development, and the trail provides hikers the opportunity for some incredible views of the surrounding valley. When coming eastward from the Valley Link, the Schumacher trail is also a full and steep climb out of the valley.
The hike is roughly 4 miles in length from end to end, and 8 miles round-trip.
Stay tuned for more Mega Day Hikes in the Summit Metroparks and beyond!
