Silver Springs Campground Tour, Ocala Florida, State Park
Tour of the campground at Silver Springs State Park Campground with time stamps for your convenience
Silver Springs Campground is located deep on the property, with most sites offering large sites andan abundance of greenery. Bedises having the usual ammenties within the campground- Bath House, a dump station & laundry- they also have the Silver River Museum and Education Center with a store, a replica Cracker Homestead, but also trails and a large playground. Even their internet was better than many campgrounds we have been to. Check out Fort King right down the road, as well.
We loved our stay and wished we could have spent more time there.

Kayaking Silver River, FL - part 1 (minus monkeys)
On the weekend of December 7, 8 & 9, 2007, SWFLPC, PCPC Naples, and kayaking friends from around the state of Florida went to the Silver Springs area near Ocala, for a weekend of camping, kayaking, and comraderie. This video is part 1 of 2... for just one of the different trips that the group took over this weekend. Be sure to check back for part 2, to see the wild monkeys of Silver Springs!

Silver River June 22 2015 We Found the Monkeys!
Silver River is the 2nd largest spring in Florida and it produces 550 million gallons of water per day...Well worth protecting. In the 1930's the Rhesus Macaque Monkeys were left there on an island thinking they wouldn't swim off and could be used for the Tarzan movies that were being filmed and tourism. Well 85 years later there are several bands of them. We don't always get to see them but today was a particularly good day of paddling on the Silver River. Visit kayakcentralflorida.com for more information on how to book Your Silver River Guided Kayak Tour with Central Florida Nature Adventures, llc
Itchetucknee Springs Fl
Our Sarasota Kayak Explorers group traveled up to High Springs, FL and paddled the Santa Fe river and Itchnetucknee Springs. This is a clip from the springs---a lovely area with abundant wildlife and ethereal Cypress trees.-Music on video by Yusuf Islam from the album Roadsinger track 11 Shamsia.
This is the trip we've waited for. On Saturday we launch at 10 AM and paddle from Poe Springs to Hwy 47 on the Santa Fe River. Then have a dinner (at the GREAT OUTDOORS RESTAURANT) in High Springs Florida. Sunday we launch at 8:30 AM on the Itchetucknee and will float all the way to the Hwy 129 takeout point.
NOTE: there is no longer a shuttle from the south end of the
Itchetucknee Park back to the start point for kayakers, so WE WILL FLOAT THROUGH THE PARK TO THE SANTA FE RIVER AND TAKE OUT ON HWY 129.
You'll paddle in some of the prettiest water in Florida, and have fun on the trip. We usually stay in motels (Country Inn) on Saturday night or camp overnight in one of the many campgrounds in the area.
Ocala Kayaking Tours with the Silver River Monkeys; near Ocala and The Villages
Bob and our lead guide Kenny headed out for a guided kayak tour and found the Silver River Monkeys! These Rhesus Macaques have been here since the 1930s and are the only ones to thrive on their own in the US. Boat trip to Salt Springs
Come with us on a boat ride! From the Georgetown Cove Waterfront Park it is only an 11.2 mile journey by boat (51.2 miles by roadways) to the Salt Springs Recreation Area. This is how the USDA Ocala National Forest website describes Salt Springs: Salt Springs Recreation Area is one of the recreational jewels of the Ocala National Forest. The recreation area is located in the lush, semi-tropical setting of central Florida. Within the recreation area is a natural spring rising from vertical seizures (cracks) from deep within the earth. The presence of potassium, magnesium and sodium salts give the waters in the spring a slight salinity. Hence the name Salt Springs.

Exploring Florida's Silver River
Wildlife photo opportunities, along with a quiet, peaceful place to kayak, have for years drawn me to the natural beauty of Florida's Silver River at the edge of the Ocala National Forest.
There are changes occurring there that may alter those early experiences. While Rhesus Monkeys are very popular with visitors and locals alike, they are not a protected species and are being periodically harvested.
My photos in this video capture the way it was!
