Exploring the Abandoned Dead Mall Niagara Square | Dead Malls | Abandoned Malls
Exploring the Abandoned Dead Mall Niagara Square | Dead Malls | Abandoned Malls
Photo Gallery:
Today we head, once again, to my hometown of Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada.
This is the former Niagara Square Shopping Mall, which opened in 1977 and had room for 83 units.
I've got many memories in this mall from visiting Santa and the Easter Bunny as a child, I remember my Mom taking me to K-Mart and buying me the Hulkamania Workout Set which came out in 1985.
I hung out here with friends all though elementary school and high school, I remember clear as day how busy Niagara Square was around Christmas time.
The old 3 screen movie theatre was also on the property so as kids we would hang out at the mall before lining up for the movies, which we had to either check the Niagara Falls Review for the listings or call the cinema and listen to the recorded movie listing.
In 1987 or 1988 my mom took me here and bought me my first ever leather jacket, it was a graduation gift. Many years ago I gave that jacket to my cousin Jenny and I'll bet you she still has it!
This 36,000-square-metre shopping centre, which opened in 1977, had 83 units but many have been empty in recent years prior to it’s closing in 2017. In January of 2017, less than 30 percent of the stores were occupied.
Stores had been slowly closing up shop since tenants were given notice in January 2017 to vacate the mall by May 1. By mid april 2017, the only inside store that was open for business was Winners.
The mall had suffered a major blow in 2002 when Zellers decided to pull out as one of the mall's major retail anchors. That, plus a gradual decline as big box retail operations set up shop on Morrison Street at Drummond Road and as other malls in Niagara continued to expand, fueled rumours among mall tenants and shoppers that the mall was doomed for eventual closure.
Now in 2019, with Choom Cannabis Co. and a new medical clinic opening in buildings with outdoor access on the property, and Tuesday's announcement Costco Wholesale will open a new 150,000-square-foot location next year, officials are celebrating a rebirth of sorts, said Mayor Jim Diodati.
It's the evolution of Niagara Square, he said, pointing to the ongoing redevelopment of the 400,000-square-foot property.
While the interior portion of Niagara Square has been vacant since April 2017, standalone businesses on the property, including World Gym, Michaels, JYSK, The Brick, Mandarin, Cineplex and Hoops, have remained open.
Rumours had been swirling for some time that Costco Wholesale, which has stores in St. Catharines and Stoney Creek, was looking for a new home in Niagara.
Now, as of September 2019 the demolition has begun on the old Niagara Square to make way for a new state of the art Costco and at 150,000 square feet it will be larger than the existing Costco store in St. Catharines and will feature a gas bar.

Cinema Dog Park - Ancaster Dog Park, Hamilton Ontario - Zeus' Visit 2013 (Part 2/4)
Join our Facebook Group! * PART 2 of 4 * Wow, what a huge dog park!! Zeus' favorite of all dog parks! This is a must visit place for anyone that lives near Ancaster, Ontario. Ancaster Dog Park or Hamilton Dog Park visitors will love Cinema Dog Park in Ancaster Ontario just off the 403, 1st exit off Lincoln Alexander Parkway at Silver City Movie Theater if you been there before, off to the side right at the same parking lot as the theater off to the right when you pull in.. you will see the dog gates and can park close to the gates.
Lots of running room for dogs to play and have a blast. Every type of dog possile there, and always alot of dogs there. Very clean dogpark, owners seem to clean up after their dogs and seem to be social all around. Great place to socialize your dog, spend some time with your dog and let your dog run free off leash!
If you have never been to Cinema Dogpark, we hope you will enjoy the video of our visit to the Ancaster Dog Park - we documented our visit with some great video footage of the entire park (almost, its too big) but we covered the major areas. There are so many trails to walk down, benches to relax on and areas to spend some social times with your pets. Zeus the Red Doberman always visits alot of dog parks across Ontario and likes to make videos of his visit and his new friends... this is our visit to Hamilton area.
Zeus the Red Doberman is always whining to go back here, so well.. yes, we are visiting the dog park alot these days, and he gets a chance to meet alot fo new friends such as a great dane, rotweiller, labradoodle, spitz, greyhound, poodle, bulldog, german sheppard, and some other cool friends. So far everyone has been so nice (the mutts) and Zeus just loves to socialize and swim with everyone there.
The dog owners are super, social and polite so far.. its been a blast. Zeus loves the water, he always looks forward to running down to the water and going for a swim, theres even a great deep water pit hole futher down the stream if your dog likes deep water, theres a part in the videos that shows the deeper end also.. It sure surprised Zeus, he thought it was shallow like the rest lol.
Anyways, as always enjoy the dog park videos, this is Zeus the Red Dobermans first visit to the dogpark, since then he has been back and plans to return often as possible. Its not too far of a drive, and worth every minute to Zeus of the drive!
Zeus the Red Doberman spends most of his dogpark time in Brantford at Dogford Dog Park located in Brantford Ontario, not far from Ancaster. Zeus has made alot of videos from Brantford Dog Park as well as Kitchener Dog Park, Cambridge Dog Park and other dog park videos.. if your bored check out Zeus' other awesome dog videos!
Thanks for watching!

Known as the Gateway to the North, the city is a staging point for large-scale oil sands projects occurring in northern Alberta and large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories.Edmonton is a cultural, governmental and educational centre. It hosts a year-round slate of festivals, reflected in the nickname Canada's Festival City. SUMMARY
=======
The Hudson's Bay Company (HBC; French: Compagnie de la Baie d'Hudson) is a Canadian retail business group. A fur trading business for much of its existence, HBC now owns and operates retail stores in Canada, the United States and parts of Europe, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. The company's namesake business division is Hudson's Bay, commonly referred to as The Bay (La Baie in French). Other divisions include Galeria Kaufhof, Home Outfitters, Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue. HBC's head office was in the Simpson Tower in Toronto, but it relocated northwest of Toronto to Brampton, Ontario. The company is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol HBC.
The company was incorporated by English royal charter in 1670 as The Governor and Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson's Bay. It functioned as the de facto government in parts of North America before European states and later the United States laid claim to some of those territories. It was once the world's largest landowner, controlling the area of the Hudson Bay watershed, known as Rupert's Land, which has 15% of North American acreage. From its long-time headquarters at York Factory on Hudson Bay, the company controlled the fur trade throughout much of the English and later British-controlled North America for several centuries. Undertaking early exploration, its traders and trappers forged relationships with many groups of aboriginal peoples. Its network of trading posts formed the nucleus for later official authority in many areas of Western Canada and the United States. In the late 19th century, with its signing of the Deed of Surrender, its vast territory became the largest portion of the newly-formed Dominion of Canada, in which the company was the largest private landowner.
By the mid-19th century, the company evolved into a mercantile business selling everything from furs to fine homeware. They quickly introduced a new type of client to the HBC – one that shopped for pleasure and not with skins; the retail era had begun as the HBC began establishing stores across the country. In 1863, the International Financial Society bought controlling interest in the HBCo., signalling a shift in the company’s outlook: most of the new shareholders were less interested in the fur trade than in real estate speculation and economic development in the West. The Society floated £2 million in public shares on non-ceded land held ostensibly by the Hudson's Bay Company as an asset and leveraged this asset for collateral for these funds. These funds allowed the Society the financial means to weather the financial collapse of 1866 which destroyed many competitors and invest in railways in North America. Negotiations conducted with the Colonial Office and, after 1867, with the Canadian government, eventually resulted in the sale of Rupert’s Land to Canada in 1870. As part of the agreement, the company received £300,000 and one-twentieth of the fertile areas to be opened for settlement. In addition, it retained title to th ...

Cinema Dog Park - Ancaster Dog Park, Hamilton Ontario - Zeus' Visit 2013 (Part 1/4)
Join our Facebook Group! * PART 1 of 4 * Ancaster Dog Park is a HUGE awesome dogpark that we recommend to ANYONE who has a dog, its definitely a dogs paradise for sure with tons of room, running water, a water pit and lots of seating for dog owners and parents to relax and spend some quality time with their best friends.
Dog Parks are awesome, Zeus the Red Doberman visits dog parks all over the place, but this one.... WOW, Zeus loves this dogpark and almost feels 'free' without fences etc.. but of course the Cinema Dogpark is completely fenced in and safe... its just so big it appears like a huge field.
Tons of dogs from German Sheppards, Dobermans, Rotweillers, lots of poodles and huskeys, great danes and shih tzus and other small dogs. Lots of running room, plenty of benches and grass for the dogs to munch on. Overall its a super clean dog park, the owners seem to care about the park and most clean up after their dogs as they should.
People are social, but unline alot of other dogparks, they dont gang up on other dog owners and huddle in groups talking and gossiping... which is nice. I guess being a larger area, population, etc, people seem to mind their own business which is nice for the visitors and the dogs! Zeus notices some smaller dogparks seem to be really facebook oriented and creating a social gossip scene hanging around and not paying attention to their dogs and stuff, but rather there to yap and foget about their dogs.. not here! People are great, dogs are super, lots of trees, walking paths, etc..
If you havent been to this dogpark before, we highly recommend taking a trip to the dog park, you will find it an awesome place and a double gate to go in and out, which is nice.. easier to bring your mutts in and out without problems...
We believe the park is owned or operated by the 'Cinema right next to it, its Silver City with the huge movie screens, nice theater too.. lts of parking right at the gates and a huge parking lot to park your vehicles... its a big park so be ready for a little walking time with your dogs, but you will love the quality time you will have here.. and be sure to bring your camera, i am sure you will want to capture some of the beauty and dogs playing and having the time of their life.
The running water is awesome, its a LONG stream, we were advised it is always tested and sure to be good for dogs drinking it, swimming in it etc.. but if anyone knows for sure, please leave a comment, this was third party information.. but it looks clean, but the factories nearby makes you wonder if its really 100% clean.. but we see ALOT of dogs playing, drinking and laying down in the water..
Zeus found a dogs heaven playground, Zeus wants to go there all the time, so we do our best to get him there when we can for a visit. Its not far from Hamilton, Brantford or Toronto if your up for a short drive.. check it out.
Thanks for watching Zeus and his friends having a blast and maybe see you at the Cinema Dog Park in Ancaster Ontario soon!
