Eidfjord is a municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality is located in the traditional district of Hardanger. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Eidfjord, where the majority of the municipal population lives. The other major population centre in the municipality is the village of Øvre Eidfjord.

Eidfjord is situated at the end of the Eidfjorden, an inner branch of the large Hardangerfjorden. The village of Eidfjord is a major cruise ship port of call. Eidfjord has several tourist sites, like the Sima Power Plant which is built into the mountain itself, the Måbødalen valley, and the Vøringsfossen waterfall which has a free fall of 182 metres (597 ft). Large parts of the Hardangervidda (Europe's largest mountain plateau) are located in Eidfjord. The Hardangervidda Natursenter, a visitors centre and museum for Hardangervidda National Park, is located in Øvre Eidfjord.

Beautiful Norway - Kjeåsen

Kjeåsen er en fjellgård (med to bruk) i Eidfjord kommune i Hordaland. Gården ligger på en avsats i fjellet ca. 530 moh innerst i Simadalsfjorden. Gården er ikke lenger i drift, men er bosatt av en person i sommerhalvåret. Den er mye besøkt av turister, særlig fra Sverige. Gården er blitt kalt «verdens mest utilgjengelige».
Kjeåsen kan nås til fots opp den bratte stien fra Sima kraftverk. Dette var gårdsveien helt fram til 1974, turen tar ca. 1 1/2 - 2 time hver vei. Kjeåsen har også det som av noen blir kalt «verdens dyreste gårdsvei», 5 km vei hvorav ca. 2,6 km tunnel fra Simadalen opp til gården. Tunnelen har ett kjørefelt, med oppkjøring hver hele klokketime og nedkjøring hver halve klokketime. Veien og tunnelen til Kjeåsen ble bygd i 1974 i forbindelse med kraftutbyggingen i Simadalen. Tunnelen har nå fått lys. Det er ikke tillatt å gå eller sykle i tunnelen.[trenger referanse]
Navnet Kjeåsen kommer av kje (geitekilling) og ås. Gården har vært bebodd i hvert fall siden 1650-tallet. Fram til veien opp til gården ble bygd, gikk all transport på den bratte stien fra fjordbotnen. På 1930-tallet ble det bygd en taubane som kunne frakte mat og andre varer opp til gården. Beboerne på Kjeåsen måtte imidlertid bruke stien som før. Det ytre bruket på Kjeåsen ble fraflyttet i 1962, men det andre bruket har siden 2010 vært bebodd bare i sommerhalvåret. Det ytre bruket ble i 2016 solgt etter flere hundre år i samme slekt.

It is widely visited by tourists, especially from Sweden. The farm has been called the world's most inaccessible.
Kjeåsen can be reached on foot up the steep path from Sima power plant. This was the farm road until 1974, the trip takes approx. 1 1/2 - 2 hours each way. Kjeåsen also has what some call the world's most expensive farm road, 5 km away of which approx. 2.6 km tunnel from Simadalen up to the farm. The tunnel has one lane, with run-up every full hour and downhill every half hour. The road and tunnel to Kjeåsen was built in 1974 in connection with the power development in Simadalen. The tunnel has now been lighted. Walking or cycling in the tunnel is not allowed. [Needs reference]
The name Kjeåsen comes from goat (goat kitten) and hill. The farm has been inhabited at least since the 1650s. Until the road up to the farm was built, all transport went on the steep path from the fjord bottom. In the 1930s, a cable car was built that could carry food and other goods up to the farm. However, the residents of Kjeåsen had to use the trail as before. The 0uter smallholdings on Kjeåsen was vacated in 1962, but the other use since 2010 has been inhabited only in the summer. Outer smallholding was sold in 2016 after several hundred years in the same family.

Old Eidfjord Church

Old Eidfjord Church (Norwegian: Eidfjord gamle kyrkje) is a parish church in Eidfjord municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Eidfjord. The church is part of the Eidfjord parish in the Hardanger og Voss deanery in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, stone church was built around the year 1309 to serve the people of Eidfjord. The church was the main church for the Eidfjord parish (sokn) until 1981 when the new Eidfjord Church was completed. The old church is now used only for special occasions since it only seats about 100 people. The church is decorated as it looked in the 1700s.

Going back and forth on the beautiful road Simadalsvegen (FV103) east of Eidfjord in Norway in July 2016. Simadalsfjorden is a part of Eidfjorden and is surrounded by mountains up to 1500 meters high. On one of them is the famous farm Kjeåsen located.
