Simala Shrine In Sibonga, Cebu City.
Nestled in the uphill area of upper Lindogon, Simala, Sibonga, Cebu is the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, or popularly known as the Simala Shrine. She’s been adored and visited by both locals and tourists alike.
If you are a Marian devotee, the monastery is the best place for you to visit because she is considered to be the home of the “miraculous” Birhen sa Simala. Furthermore, the monastery is the best place for you to meditate and say your prayers.
It is believed that Virgin Mary cried blood on September 8, during her birthday – hence, the “miraculous” Virgin Mary. Being a devotee, you wouldn’t mind falling in line in order to meet and kiss the Virgin Mary as a sacrifice, even if it’ll take you an hour or so.
However, just a friendly reminder; you should be wearing formal dresses to enter the monastery and let us all e mindful of our words and actions.
Like any other church and monastery, Birhen sa Simala holds a Eucharistic celebration every day at 12:00 NN, except Saturdays and every 13th of the month for it starts at 10:30 AM.

The Miraculous Simala Church
The Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, known as the Simala Shrine or Simala Church is located in Marian Hills, Lindogon, Simala, Sibonga, Cebu. It was built in 1998 by the Marian Monks from Pampanga. It used to be just an ordinary church until after the incidents of miraculous events.
when i saw the church, i already thought its just an ordinary church or a chapel maybe. because the main church was so small. but finding out the reason why, it was all because of one miraculous event that happened before, the shedding of tears of the Mother Mary’s image.
since then more and more devotees flocked the area. some people even donated things like their graduation pictures, badges of seafarer, even their slings and wheelchair as proof of the miracles that happened to their life and it were all displayed in the lobby and placed inside the cabinets. the truth, even though i am a catholic, i dont believe in apparitions and i dont call it miracles. yes i do believe miracles but not an apparition.
walking outside the church was like walking from the past. the way they designed the church it was like a castle in one of the china's dynasty. if you plan to visit the place, follow their rules when visiting the church, a) no-flash photography inside the church, b) avoid wearing revealing clothes like miniskirts, short shorts, and see through blouse and pants.c) no alcoholic drinks of-course you're not going to be drunk inside the church, d) no loud noise and lastly e)no footwear inside the prayer room.

There are various reasons why people come to visit the Simala Shrine. For Catholic devotees, the main reason why they visit the place is for them to offer their devotion, prayers, and petitions to the Virgin Mary with a hope that each petition and devotion will be answered. Another reason is for healing of physical and spiritual illness. For some, especially for non-catholics, visiting the shrine is for adventure and curiosity purposes only. The amazing structure and architecture of the shrine will really leave someone in awe.

There is also a huge replica structure of the Blessed Virgin Mary positioned at the church’s entrance. According to the locals, the replica was constructed to honor Mary for the miracle she completed by healing several children affected by the wide-spread epidemic which plagued the area.
The Monastery was designed uphill for people to walk as penitential before entering the place. Asides from statues and the replica, they also have wishing bell. In order to make a wish, one must throw a coin and make sure it will bounce to the bell's side.

Mama Mary’s Shrine in Lindogon, Simala, Cebu, which is commonly known as “Birhen sa Simala Church” is one of the famous religious shrine in the Philippines.
The Monastery of Simala has an interesting history. It is owned by the Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration (MMEA), and they also have nuns of different communities like SSMM (Sister Servants of Mama Mary, (SSE) Sister Servants of Mater Evangelorum, SSA (Sister Servants of the Abandoned), etc. Around the year 1997, Simala Church became a popular pilgrim site, and people started flocking here to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration (MMEA) who founded Simala Church escaped the wrath of Mt. Pinatubo in Pampanga. Based on anecdotes, during Mt.Pinatubo’s eruption, a woman named Terry Brooks carrying an image of Blessed Mary ran towards the chapel. He handed the statue to Frater Martin saying the image will be safe in the church. Later on, after the eruption, they searched for the woman in every village and no one recognized her. Eventually, with the permission of then bishop of Cebu, the Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration (MMEA) moved to Cebu.
Amusingly, in Brgy. Lindogon in Sibonga, Cebu, an old man named Ingkong Villamor had a prophecy. He said that a white lady will reign a barren hill and it will become a holy site. He passed away and his son Monsignortomas Villamor became a priest. When Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration (MMEA) moved to Cebu, Monsignortomas planned to build a monastery for the monks. The search led them to an isolated hill in Brgy. Lindogon in Sibonga town. There, they built a nipa hut and started planting trees. Unfortunately, dengue started to spread around the village and many children died because their family couldn’t afford to send them to the hospital. Frater Martin encouraged the people to join a penitence walk. It is said that eventually, the smell of fresh flower spread throughout the village and got rid of the mosquitoes and the children with dengue were healed. Stories about the incident spread like wild fire, and devotees started flocking to Simala Church. The monks then continued building the monastery to what it is today and designed it uphill as some sort of a penitence before entering the church.
