Simatai Great Wall of China in the snow
There are many places to see the Great Wall of China (it is after all over 6260 km (3890 miles) in length !). The most popular sections of the wall are Badaling and Mutianyu, however if you want to see the Great Wall of China in its authentic form then the Simatai section of the Great wall is definitely a place to visit. There are magnificent views to be seen from the top of wall no matter what the weather is like !
As you can see from the video there were not a lot of tourists to to the Simatai wall that day; this is partly down to the extreme cold weather conditions that Northern China was experiencing.
The Simatai section of the Great Wall is located 120km NE of Beijing. One method of reaching the wall is by bus from Dongzhimen bus station (North East Beijing city centre) to the town of Miyun, and then take a taxi to the wall.
Note it is very important to set off early, as the bus journey by bus takes 1 1/2 hours and the taxi takes a further hour and a quarter.
When you return to Beijing eat at one the excellent restaurants located in Dongzhimen shopping centre.

Simatai Great Wall of China 司马台长城
The Simatai Great Wall is considered one the best sections of the wall and ranked first in a list of the World's Top 25 Scenic Spots by the Times newspaper in 2012.
The Great Wall at Simatai is also the only section opened for a night tour. You must proceed through Gubei Water Town to reach Simatai, and a reservation is required if you only plan to visit the Great Wall itself.
The wall can be reached via cable car and the views are spectacular as the wall follows the rises and peaks of the mountain tops. It is particularly impressive at night with the towers and pathway lit up.
This section was constructed under the supervision of Qi Jiguang, a famous general in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
It stretches 5.4 kilometers (3.4 miles), and is separated into eastern part and western part by Mandarin Duck Lake. This section has 34 beacon towers, with 18 of them in the western part and 16 in the east. They are relatively close to each other, with the average distance apart about 140 meters (460 feet).
At present only the eastern part from No. 1 Tower to No. 10 Tower has been restored and officially opened. Another feature of Simatai is the diverse architectural styles of the beacon towers; there are two-storey or three-storey towers, and towers of square shape, oval shape, or hexagonal. The number of arrow holes on each tower also varies, and includes two, three, four, and even 24 holes. Of the towers, the most distinctive are the Fairy Maiden Tower (No. 15 East Tower) and Wangjing Tower (No. 16 East Tower). The former is the narrowest tower of this section, while the latter occupies the highest point of the whole scenic area. There is an almost vertical stairway with large steps leading to the Fairy Maiden Tower. Built over the sheer cliff makes this tower very hard to reach. #visitchina

Which Section of the GREAT WALL OF CHINA Should You Visit? | Abandoned or Restored
Which Section of the Great Wall of China should you visit? This was probably the biggest question we had before travelling to China. Mutianyu? Badaling? Jinshanling? Or how about off the beaten path at the Great Wall Fresh Homestay? - This film aims to determine once and for all, which is the best section of the Great Wall to visit.
I'm trying something a little different with this film - it's longer and more documentary style. Let me know what you think in the comments!

The Great Wall of China: Hiking & Camping!
The two days we spent exploring remote portions of The Great Wall were some of the most awe-inspiring, challenging and beautiful days of our 21 days in China! We started day one on the Jiankou portion of the wall and then to the Huanghuacheng that night. We hiked in the dark and set up a tent to camp on the wall, waking up the next morning to gorgeous songs of bugs and wind passing through the mist the next morning. After packing up the camp site, we hiked the Huanghuacheng section for the rest of the day. I highly recommend visiting these gorgeous pieces of the wall and experiencing history far from tourists. It's truly unforgettable.

Beijing Gubei Water Town [Walk and Drone]
If your going to Beijing to see The Great Wall i recommend to go to this town if you have some day to spare and stay the night there to see the night lights.
There are many hotsprings inside the hotels, there is only one for the public which you can enter for free with the voucher that they give when you check-in at the main entrance.
There are many ways to get to Gubei Water Town from Beijing, but i choose the easy way and i dont think is that expensive either reserving a taxi, cost around $80usd
If your staying at some hotel in Beijing just ask the reception to help you book a taxi to Gubei, if not i will leave the number the one i use, he picked me from the hotel in Beijing to Gubei Water Town and i told him to pick me up after two days to go to PEK International Airport. Around same price he uses the taxi meter.

Situated in Gubeikou Town of Miyun County in Beijing, Gubei Water Town surrounds the beautiful Mandarin Duck Lake Reservoir and leans against the Simatai Great Wall, the most dangerous and majestic section of the entire Great Wall. Regarded as 'Wuzhen in Beijing', Gubei Water Town boasts a combination of mountains, water and ancient villages. The town is characterized by the northern architectural style, and the history and culture of the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the Republic of China (1912-1949) historic period. Most buildings are reconstructed in the traditional courtyard style. Based on five ancient villages and a water resource, this water town has developed into a large-scale sightseeing and holiday destination. Covering an area of 3.5 square miles (9 square kilometers), the holiday resort includes two scenic districts, the Gubei Water Town and the Simatai Great Wall.

Great Wall of China, Beijing - Winter is the best time to visit China!
The Great Wall of China is a World Heritage wonder and the only man-made structure that can be seen from outer space. It's a jaw-dropping sight at any time of the year but for a special treat, go in winter. You'd be surprised to find that winter is the best time to visit China and to explore the Great Wall without the crowds. The winter wonderland landscape is ethereal, especially when it snows on the Great Wall.
When visiting the Great Wall there are several places you can climb the wall. You can take a Badaling Great Wall tour or a Mutianyu Great Wall tour.
Visiting the Great Wall of China is one of the most iconic things to do when you're in Beijing. Walking the Great Wall of China is something everyone should try at least once. You don't have to walk the whole way. Well, you'd have to be pretty fit to do so!
It's a day trip to visit while staying in Beijing. My tour was organised by Bespoke Beijing. I stayed at China World Summit Wing in the Shangri-La Beijing.

The Most Dangerous Section of ALL Great Wall of China: Simatai Sky Bridge 司马台长城单边墙 - 长城第一险
Simatai (Chinese: 司马台; pinyin: Sīmǎtái), a section of the Great Wall of China located in the north of Miyun County, 120 km northeast of Beijing, holds the access to Gubeikou, a strategic pass in the eastern part of the Great Wall. It was closed in June 2010 but has been reopened to tourists in 2014.
Sky Bridge: As little as 40 centimeters wide in places, this 100-meter-long segment of the wall connects the Fairy Tower to Watching Beijing Tower.
