Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC)
Uganda wildlife education center was established in 1952 as the Uganda zoo also known as Entebbe Zoo, and the primary purpose of the zoo was to accommodate the injured, sick, orphaned and rescued animals from poachers and other phenomena. It is located at the shores of Lake Victoria, which is the largest fresh water lake in Africa. In the early 1960s, it was converted to the traditional zoo.
Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) Trust was founded in 1994 to convert the traditional system of zoo from bring an attraction center to use it for Conservation Education purpose.
It surprisingly houses a wide range of wild animals (around 400), plants (around 500), and verities of bird(around 250), many reptiles, various butterflies and other indigenous animals which makes it an attractive venue for imparting education as well as providing a pleasing experience for those who loves wildlife.
