The Simon Pearce Mill is undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation project mixing Vermont history and new age design.

Hydro Power Dam at Simon Pearce VT

The object of Pearce's affection was a 200-year-old brick, former woolen mill on the lovely Ottauquechee River, sitting next to a spectacular waterfall. The building was larger than Pearce wanted but he bought it anyway in 1980. Way ahead of his time, he fitted it out so that the natural energy of the falling water produced the power to drive the glass furnaces.

We wanted to go someplace where it was beautiful to live and work, somewhere where we could make our own electricity for our own glass - which meant hydro-power
