Vietnam outtakes - Travel to 'Top Gear' clothes tailor, Hội An
We got some really nice shirts, suits and leather jacket from this town of Hoi An. Beautiful place. I just wish I found this place first and I would have gotten all my stuff here. Instead I just got a shirt for the sake of it. Really nice shirt though and of course hand made by the 'Yaly' tailors. Thats right, the place was called 'Yaly' for those of you interested in getting yourself some amazing clothes made just for you. They might do internet sales, but if not you could always try to pop in if you're in Hoi An, Vietnam.
Lyndon and Simon at the best restaurant in Hoi An
Well we thought so anyway
Wombats go to Hoi An Vietnam at night. Lights, lanterns and restaurants. Part 1
Hoi An in Vietnam at night a mind boggling display of lanterns and lights. Shops and enough restaurants to spend a couple of years eating in.

Its been a hell of a busy week from travelling from Hanoi to Da Nang where I explored the city, the dragon bridge and chilled on the beach to then get the bus to Hoi An. In Hoi An I got a tailor made suit, I took part in the full moon lantern festival and I also explored the city and took in the culture and local foods. I also got the night bus to Nha Trang from Hoi An, I did't really like Nha Trang as most things at Vinpearl where closed and the city wasn't for me but the mud spa was unreal. From Nha Trang I then flew to Ho chi minh Ciy.
Stay tuned for nexts weeks episode.

Rainy Day in Hôi An // Travel Vlog
We started our morning traveling from Huê to Hôi An via the Hai Van Pass. Unfortunately, due to all the rain, we opted to go straight to Hoi An, as it wasn't safe for our bus to travel through the pass with those weather conditions. That meant more time to explore Hôi An!!

Ao Dai - Die traditionelle Kleidung in Vietnam

Friendship Village Vietnam: An Art Peace Project
Mobile, Ala. – When local artist Walter Simon first installed a series of paintings at Gallery 450 last September, he never imagined that one particular oil painting would be flown overseas for special display at a national museum in Hanoi, Vietnam. Nor did he ever expect to become the first American invited to exhibit in that area of the world.
This fortunate opportunity which began as a request to design a book cover, inspired Simon to create the 6’x 6’ canvas production, “From Alabama to Hanoi.” “My author friend James Rhodes is an Alabama veteran who teaches English in Hanoi. He asked me to create a book cover.”
The painting for Vietnam, he added, “Is about honest conversation and reconciliation between the United States and the people of Vietnam.” It is also appropriately timed, as 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of renewed diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Vietnam.
Simon is excited about this once-in-a-lifetime travel adventure, and plans to make good use of his time abroad as a visiting artist-in-residence and ESL instructor with the Vietnam Friendship Village Project. Since opening in 1988, this collaborative outreach organization developed by American, Vietnamese and French veterans provides services for victims of Agent Orange. A compassionate continuum-of-care includes therapy, medical care, education and vocational training for more than 100 children with a variety of mental and physical conditions. About 40 adults also receive residential treatment services.
“We will also be filming a documentary,” Simon said “for their local television about the artists of Vietnam’s Friendship Village who create beautiful works of art while living with the effects of Agent Orange syndrome.”
Many of the residents have learned to create works of art as part of their therapy. Select paintings will be available for viewing in Alabama galleries when Simon returns this summer. “I am pleased to make new friends in another land that is excited about new partnerships and sustainable economic growth.”
In an effort to support his travels, a special fundraiser is being held at Gallery 450 on Friday, March 13, beginning at 6 p.m. The roster of live music includes Bryant Gilley’s Shifting Tracks, along with Walter Simon. Jason Condon, Glynn Wilson and Leland Clay. After 9 p.m., a $5 door cover is required. A refreshments area is available for VIP supporters of $25 or more.
If you cannot attend the event and would like to contribute, visit Simon’s Kickstarter campaign:

Hoi An to Hue. This one is for all the Top Gear Vietnam fans. Check it out as we cross the infamous Hi Van Pass and visit the Citadel in Hue which was the epicentre of American/Vietnam war in 1968. We also get us some Top Gear style clothes from the same tailor they did.
