Canoeing the very peaceful Peace River. The River offers lots of great wildlife viewing including alligators, deer, raccoons, and more, great fishing including Gar, Bass, and Sunfish, swimming, hiking trails, wilderness camping, fossil hunting, and of-course canoeing and kayaking.
The Peace River Canoe Trail begins at Fort Meade and ends 67 miles later, at State Road 70, just west of Arcadia, Florida.

A pleasant Sunday morning kayak trip up the Rainbow river. Paddled about a mile upriver and then leisurely coasted back to the launch ramp. Spent over an hour on the crystal clear water.
Rainbow Springs State Park is a Florida State Park located on U.S. 41, three miles (5 km) north of Dunnellon, Florida. It comprises 1,459.07 acres (5.9046 km2) upland (which includes around 100 acres (0.40 km2) of wetlands) and 12.83 acres (51,900 m2) submerged. The most significant natural feature is the first magnitude headspring basin which produces up to 600,000,000 US gallons (2,300,000 m3) of fresh water per day, forming The Rainbow River. The looking glass waters of Rainbow Springs come from several vents, not one large bubbling spring. The river itself supports a wide variety of fish, wildlife, and plants, many within easy viewing by visitors. In total, the park contains 11 distinct natural communities, including sandhills, flatwoods, upland mixed forests, and hydric hammocks.
Visitors are able to see a variety of wildflowers in season; oak, longleaf pines, magnolia, dogwood, red maple, redbud, cypress, sabal, and hickory trees; gray squirrels, red-shouldered hawks, swallowtail kites, barred owls, whitetail deer, and a wide variety of wading birds. The relative peace and quiet of the winter season offers much for the nature enthusiast. There is an interpretive room located in the visitor center displaying historical, natural, and cultural resources of the park.
Welcome to Rainbow Springs, Dunnellon, Florida
Rainbow Springs, Florida. Narration is by boat captain Manning Skipper Lockett recorded at the Florida Folk Festival in 1956. He was reciting his glass-windowed submarine tour guide speech from when Rainbow Springs had been a privately owned tourist attraction between the 1930s and 1970s. Now the spring is a state park. Much of this video is of the property surrounding the springs. Ruins of the old tourist attraction can still be seen, such as the zoo cages, the waterfalls and run-down gardens which are now being replaced with native species of plants. Withlacoochee Dreamer
The Withlacoochee River is perhaps my favorite of the many beautiful, primal rivers of Florida. Stories I heard as a kid hanging around my Grandfather Geiger's surplus store prompted this tune. From a performance at Sweetwater Farms in Tampa in May 2009.

Tale of Three Florida Rivers: Withlacoochee, Rainbow, and Homossassa
Spent the day exploring some of Florida's nature coast's rivers! Started off on a terrific boat tour with Jon Semmes of Singing River Cruises. He showed us lots of wildlife on the Withlacoochee and Rainbow Rivers. He even serenaded us with some authentic Florida folk music! Great tour. I highly recommend it. Then, after lunch, we headed over to Homossassa Springs State Park for a view into the headspring and checking out the Manatees. Overall a great Florida day!
Dunnellon Florida Old Views and Sights around town 1800 - 1960
The old Dunnellon Hotel would have been out in front of the CK gas station. And was blocking the US 41 route going straight through town. As seen in news clip.
These are still some of the pictures I have now.
Check out the Old Rainbow Springs Pictures I put on, if you havn't already.
