Qatar: The Singing Sand Dunes
After I came from holiday, we manage to see and witness Qatar's singing dunes although i prefer to call it the humming dunes. It was a magnificent experience and first time to witness after almost 5 years of staying here.
The singing sand dunes are one of approximately 30 sites in the world where sound is produced from sand dunes naturally. The dunes themselves curve round in a semi circle, forming a natural desert amphitheatre.
Noise from singing sand dunes, which have been reported in the Middle East for over 1500 years, have been described as roaring, booming, squeaking, singing or musical. Qataris used to attribute these sounds to evil Djinns; similarly, Marco Polo, when he heard the sounds 700 years ago, blamed the sounds on evil spirits.

Let’s explore an amazing singing sand dunes tour with Mama Baba Ganoush. Qatar’s singing sand dunes are a group of crescent-shaped sand dunes located approximately 40 KM south-west of Doha. The dunes make a “singing” sound created by the wind of friction caused by walking, running or sliding down the dune. Qatar Desert Singing Sand Dunes
There are certain conditions in which the movement of sand grains can create a low murmur or 'singing' -- a phenomenon often reported by desert explorers. Qatar is fortunate in having sand with the right abrasive qualities in an area that also experiences the necessary wind and moisture conditions to create this wonderful if weird effect. While the 'singing' occurs naturally, it can be triggered by sliding down the face of the dune or running along its crest, whereupon each footstep creates a humming that cannot only be heard but also felt as a vibration through the feet.

What an awesome experience climbing a sand dune in Doha, Qatar. Extremely tiring as you will hear, was out of breathe so quickly, you can't comprehend the slope of the Dune. They make an unusual sound when you jump and run down the dune, unfortunately not audible across the GoPro, Enjoy!

I was fortunate enough to witness the Sand Dunes phenomenon is Qatar. It is more actually of humming rather than singing but hey, it was an amazing experience. You can feel the dunes' vibration while making its humming sound. Check out the video!

Had an amazing experience today at singing sand dunes qatar. It's so easy to go down but it's so hard to walk up.????.i can feel the sound when I go down, that's why it's calling singing sand dunes. You can feel the vibration And Feeling the breeze..

Doha Qatar 4X4 Sand Dunes
One of the fun things you can do in Doha, Qatar is head off into the sand dunes with a good 4X4 and have some fun. Make sure you have another car along as we found out the hard way and were fortunate someone came along when we bogged down in the fine sand.

Video of singing (humming) sand dunes caught by my compact camera as the sun set in Qatar. The sound was started by sliding and walking down the leeward side of these amazing crescent shaped dunes. Sorry for all the wind noise. You can't see much due to the low light. The sound was AWESOME in person. One of God's miracles. GPS coordinates: 25' 2.466 N, 51' 24.542 E
