Diving in the Philippines - Siquijor
Siquijor is usually not mentioned in the list of the top diving places in the Philippines. Nevertheless, this island is definitely worth visiting because of its rich marine life and also because of the variety of land activities that you can do on your non-diving days.

Siquijor, Visayas, Philippines March 2015 GoPro HD
In March 2015, we travelled to Siquijor Island for 5 amazing days! We split our time between JJs Backpackers Hostel & U-Story Guesthouse, which was incredible! Siquijor is a very laid back island, with minimal crowds and lots of fun water activities. We jumped off of many cliffs and rope swings into pristine waters, enjoyed motorcycling around the small island, and relaxed beachside. A video of the fantastic scuba diving found on Siquijor is next to come!

So SIQUIJOR ISLAND is BEAUTIFUL, we spent about 3 days here and the things to do her consist of waterfalls, waterfalls, waterfalls, and beaches... yea there is a lot of waterfalls.
The best part about the waterfalls is they are all so good, like they aren't the kind of waterfall where you have to watch from a viewing area, these are the kind that you can jump, flip, swing, and climb all over.
Also another thing about the waterfalls is that each of the waterfalls there are tour guides, they are not paid and are volunteers but they take any donations. It's really great you do not feel obliged to pay them at all and they make the experience so much better!! Our tour guides showed us where to jump and slide down waterfalls, caves behind waterfalls that we could swim in and all of these things that we would have not otherwise attempted. They truly make the experience so much better!
HOW TO GET AROUND? The best option is to definitely rent a motorbike. It's the cheapest and funnest way to get around!
WHERE TO STAY ON SIQUIJOR ISLAND? you want to stay at one of the many resorts or backpackers place on San Juan beach. The beach itself isn't very nice but thats where all the travellers go.
WHAT ARE THE PHILIPPINE PEOPLE LIKE? the best! they are truly the loveliest people I have ever encountered and one person on Siquijor took us to his house and fed us his homegrown papaya and then gave us a whole one to take home and eat at the resort! He also invited us out to watch a cock fight with him that evening... not really our thing though ahaha
WHERE TO GO IN THE PHILIPPINES? easy answer! SIARGO, OSLOB, SIQUIJOR, there are probably other places but those stood out for me, the Philippines can be expensive to travel as all the islands are so spread out so you could end up flying a lot. You want to avoid travelling by ferry as much as you can, its a painful experience, the ferry that sank in the Philippines where 4 died and 200 had to be recused, shows that its not that safe either.
The Philippines is my favourite place in the world and all I can say is you have to go to SIARGO...
PLACES TO AVOID?? The south islands of the Phillipines obviously because of the terrorists that are causing civil unrest presently, Manilla, Cebu City, and El Nido, they are all quite grungy loud and slummish places. you'd be better to spend your time elsewhere.
IS THE PHILIPPINES SAFE? Yes there is civil unrest in the south but apart from that the Philippines is very safe, always be aware but yes it is very safe to travel.

Unbelievable Diving from Siquijor, Philippines- The Island Of Fire- Nikon Coolpix AW130
Siquijor- The Island of Fire- The diving here was incredible with lots of unique animals including the Blue Ribbon eel, Orangutang crab and a great encounter with a feisty mantis shrimp. The Island itself is amazing as well with caves to explore where you are waist deep in water and crawling through gaps just big enough to squeeze my shoulders though, beautiful tiered waterfalls, healers and even a wild fish manicure at the enchanted tree. Strongly recommend a visit. Great even for the non divers.
