DALNAVART HOUSE ALREADY HAD ELECTRICITY AND PLUMBING in 1895 ( Part 1)
Historic Victorian House built in 1895
This late Victorian house belonged to Sir Hugh John Macdonald. Our guide was an amazing lady that had a wealth of knowledge and made our tour very interesting. DALNAVART is a museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is located in the restored home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, former Premier of Manitoba and son of Sir John A. Macdonal at.61 Carlton St., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 1N7, Canada.
Dalnavart is a small piece of Winnipeg's history and gives one a romantic look into the lower-end of the upper class of a small Western town at the turn of the century.
Dalnavert has served as a year-round Victorian museum for the last 40 years but the house was only designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1990 .
Sad to say the museum that operated in the home has been closed for months, It ceased operations indefinitely in November 2013 It is no longer financially viable so the fate of Dalnavart is yet to be decided.Preserving this beautiful 120-year-old home is a worthy goal but how they do it time will tell.
