Savona: sightseeing tour and origin of the city | Italia Slow Tour
A sightseeing tour of Savona discovering its three different souls: modern, art nouveau and medieval. There are so many things that people still don't know about Savona, for example that here you can find the... second Sistine Chapel! Sixtus IV, the same Pope who commissioned the Sistine Chapel in Rome, was from Savona and made another Chapel be built here, as a funeral monument for his parents.

Savona, Italy

STORYLINE
Cardinals began fresh talks at the Vatican on Thursday as Italian newspapers continued to speculate on who will become the next Pope.
The cardinals declined to comment as they arrived for the latest in a series of meetings ahead of the Conclave, which is due to begin on Monday.
Passersby gave their thoughts on who might be elected, with some saying only God can decide.
But Italy's newspapers were less reserved, with Il Tempo reporting that the influential conservative Opus Dei movement was throwing its weight behind Germany's Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.
Before voting can begin at the Conclave, Cardinals must take an oath of secrecy.
Every Cardinal receives a small voting slip inscribed with the Latin phrase, Eligo in Summum Pontificem, meaning I elect as Pope.
Under those words each Cardinal-disguising his handwriting - writes the name of his first choice to be the next Pope.
Holding the ballot slip above his head, each Cardinal walks to the altar and casts his vote.
Once the votes are counted, the ballots are burnt in a stove, temporarily constructed in the Sistine Chapel.
If the vote is indecisive and there's no new Pope, officials add a chemical to the voting slips to create black smoke.
If a Pope has been chosen, the ballots are lit with a chemical to make the smoke white. The smoke is accompanied for the first time by the ringing of bells to announce to the faithful that there is a new Pontiff.

The Pantheon in Rome was built on the orders of Hadrian between 118AD and 125AD, it functioned as a temple to all the Roman Gods. The temple was built to replace Marcus Agrippa's temple which had burnt down in 80AD. The original inscription can still be seen above the Pantheon entrance Marcus Agrippa son of Lucius, having been consul three times made it. The building is in such good condition thanks to renovations made by the Byzantine Emperor Phocas in 608AD when it was converted into a church. The church became the final resting place for several Italian kings including King Vittorio Emanuele II, Umberto I and the artist Raphael who was buried here together with his fiancée. The Pantheon architecture was unlike other Roman Temples and so historians wonder at the buildings use.

Cappella Sistina
Cappella Sistina (Sistine Chapel) is the best-known chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City. It is famous for its architecture and its decoration that was frescoed throughout by Renaissance artists including Michelangelo, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Pinturicchio and others. Under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo painted 1,100 m2 (12,000 sq ft) of the chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512. The ceiling, and especially The Last Judgment (1535--1541), is widely believed to be Michelangelo's crowning achievement in painting.
Since the time of Sixtus IV, the chapel has served as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. Today it is the site of the Papal conclave, the process by which a new Pope is selected.
