Trail S1: to Skaftafellsjökull glacier.
This trail starts next to Skaftafell Visitor Centre and is well indicated. It is paved half the way, while the latter half has a fairly comfortable gravel surface. The trail ends in close proximity of Skaftafellsjökull glacier and you will get a good view of this impressive glacier. Those who wish get closer can do so but are encouraged to follow instructions on a warning sign at the trail's end. When heading back to the visitor centre it is possible to take an alternative route by turning left on the crossroads that you arrived at some 300 m before the end point (well indicated with signs).

In this short video you can see a little bit of the Skaftafell National Park. There is a glacier Skaftafellsjökull, river Skeiðará and the waterfall Svartifoss (Black Fall) with the black basalt columns.
I've taken those shots during my very short trip to Iceland, but...I'll be back... ;-)

Iceland Vlog 8 - Skaftafell Glacier & Svartifoss Waterfall
Day 8 out of 10 of my trip to Iceland - Skaftafell Glacier & Svartifoss Waterfall
12/02/19
In this video me and my mum visit a glacier in Skaftafell National Park called Skaftafellsjökull. Instead of booking a hike tour we walk down to it ourselves and explore the bottom of it. We then do another hike to a waterfall called Svartifoss. In the next video we travel back towards to west side of Iceland ready for Blue Lagoon and our flight home. But on the way we visit many landmarks.

Brimketill - Reykjanesvirkjun - Swiming in Iceland
The foaming cauldron Brimketill, on of Iceland´s great natural wonders. It is believed that a troll bathed here.
Lava field at Brimketill.
Grindavík, Reykjanes south Iceland - 63.85°N 22.45°W
Leaving Reykjanes, the road turns east towards the cliffs at Staðarberg. As it passes one of the region¹s many salmon farms, a narrow path forks off to the right towards the shore and Brimketill, a strange formation of rock and sea well worth a visit.

6/15/2019
I started the hike from Svartifoss going clockwise on S3, with a detour on S4 and ended with S5. The best feature of the hike is the view towards the massive Skaftafellsjökull glacier. However, I got sleepy on the trail and dozed off several times. I realized I had not slept since I left home 3 days ago. I managed to return to my car like a zombie and fell asleep as soon as I closed the door. When I woke up it was midnight, and my car was again the only car in the parking lot.

Skaftafellsjökull
Three short documentaries on outlet glaciers flowing from Europes largest glacier, Vatnajökull. Here, the glacier Skaftafellsjökull is presented along with its various characteristics and wider context. Located in the heart of the national park Skaftafell, it is among the most well known Icelandic glaciers.

Lakagígar Highland Iceland
Part-10 Landmannalaugar Highland
Laki or Lakagígar (Craters of Laki) is a volcanic fissure situated in the south of Iceland, not far from the canyon of Eldgjá and the small town Kirkjubæjarklaustur, in Skaftafell National Park.
Laki is part of a volcanic system, centering on the Grímsvötn volcano and including the Eldgjá canyon and Katla volcano, and lies between the glaciers of Mýrdalsjökull and Vatnajökull, in an area of fissures which run in a south-west to north-east direction.
In AD 934, the Laki system produced a very large volcanic eruption, as a flood basalt in the Eldgjá eruption, which released 19.6 cubic kilometres (4.7 cu mi) of lava.
In 1783-1784, the system erupted again, from the Laki fissure and the adjoining Grímsvötn volcano, pouring out an estimated 14 km3 (3.4 cu mi) of basalt lava and clouds of poisonous hydrofluoric acid/sulfur-dioxide compounds that killed over 50% of Iceland's livestock population, leading to famine which killed approximately 25% of the population.
