Port Rexton/Skerwink Trail - PART I - 4K Drone Footage
We shot and put together this piece during a visit in Port Rexton in 2018. The Skerwink Trail is an incredible walking trail on the Bonavista Peninsula of Newfoundland that feature rock sea stacks, sea caves and lots of incredible scenery packed into a small area. The geology of the area is put on display for everyone to see as 580 million year old layers of rocks are tilted vertically and eroded into perfectly carved stacks.

Trinity Bay and hiking the Skerwink Trail #SplitTheRock
In New Bonaventure, we set out with Bruce Miller of Rugged Beauty Boat Tours to tour the coast around Trinity Bay, including resettled communities like Ireland's Eye and British Harbour. The tour was one of the most refreshingly honest tours I've ever experienced; Bruce is an opinionated fellow, and he's not afraid to be vocal about it. We even ended up at his cabin for a cup of tea and an Ugly Stick session.
Then: the hike around the Skerwink Trail, from Trinity. One of the best maintained and most beautiful trails I've seen in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Keep the Lights On | A short film on Port Rexton's revival
2017 could be argued as a version of late 1960’s San Francisco for the Trinity Bight, and the hot bed for this summer of love was a brew pub in Port Rexton. The buzz felt new for many, but through interviewing a small handful of local residents, we learned this has been building for some time.
What once was a plan to unplug from our contract work and take some pseudo-vacation time to shoot scenics in the area, it quickly morphed into an editorial effort about the neo bay tourism phenomenon, and became our short film “Keep the Lights On”.
The people behind Fisher’s Loft, Port Rexton Brewing, and the English Harbour Arts Centre are not only passionate about the organizations they represent, they are pioneering an outport renaissance, and proving that even three hours from town, if you build it, they will come.

Port Rexton Brewery: An NL Facts Feature
There's something tasty brewing in Port Rexton. On May 24 weekend we stopped into Port Rexton Brewing to sample their collection of delicious beers and talk with some friend patrons about what they thought of the brewery. The brewery also plays hosts to pop up and this day Oh My Cheeses and Wild Island Pothecary set up shop right on the brewery floor. If you've been considering a trip to the Trinity area this growing craft brewery may be the perfect reason to visit.

Port Rexton/Champney's West - PART II - 4K Drone Footage
Part 2 of our Port Rexton trip was spent on Fox Island near the community of Champney's West. The footage shows the hiking trail network in the area and Fox Island itself. Fox Island is the current focus of an archeological study. The area is within a coastal indentation known as the Trinity Bight, which is long recognized as a region with deep historical roots that contains many elements of the provinces cultural and natural landscape. The island is believed to be the site of a past community that contained numerous buildings.
Skerwink Trail in Newfoundland
We visited the Trinity Bight area in June 2011. One of the best hikes in Newfoundland is the Skerwink Trail.
