Ski Touring in the Callaghan, Whistler, British Columbia VLOG #1

Vlogging is a bit of a test for me. I've really enjoyed watching other peoples VLOG episodes because they feel more real and less contrived compared to conventional mainstream video (90% of my videos follow this style I'm questioning).

I am also working on a professional adventure series (not a vlog) that gives a behind the scenes look of how we film and explore remote destinations in British Columbia. So I guess this is also a good practice for being in front of the camera as I'm normally just behind it.

In this episode we went ski touring/ split boarding near Whistler, British Columbia. The area we were planning on going to was a lot further than I originally thought. I also ran into some pretty classic GoPro battery issues. Because it was about -16 each battery lost it's charge within minutes of turning on.

On the plus side the DJI Mavic Drone seemed to handle very well in the cold and I managed to capture some pretty awesome drone shots along the way. It's so great to have a drone that is so compact to actually be able to carry on missions like this where all your gear, food and water needs to fit into a backpack.

INSANE Backcountry Ski Day, Gin Peak Whistler - VLOG #19

Gin Peak Ski Tour Day Trip on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018.

It's rare to get all the conditions to line up so well. Snowpack, visibility, wind, etc. But this day ski touring up Gin Peak near Whistler was one of those days.
Gin Peak is accessed from the Callahan Valley. It's about 5km and 700m of elevation gain to the summit. At our relatively moderate pace it took us 3 hours to the top. From there we enjoyed incredible skiing down the north face from the summit. Avalanche conditions were considerable in the alpine so we took a conservative but sill amazing ski line down.
