Memorial Day 2011 - Stu and I sailed on the Neuse River in New Bern NC aboard the last surviving skipjack built in North Carolina in 1915. What an awesome learning experience!
Redden State Forest - Cutting A New Ship Mast
Capt. Ed Farley needed a new mast for his historic skipjack, the H.M. Krentz, which sails the Chesapeake Bay from St. Michael's, Maryland. He worked with Delaware Forest Service forester Erich Burkentine to select and cut a loblolly pine tree from Redden State Forest on Thursday, February 23, 2012. The tree was an estimated 78 years old and over 100 feet tall when it was cut.
