Skipton - Malham
This mid December ride gave a quick look at Skipton Castle before taking the A65 which sighted evidence of 2015 flooding through North Yorkshire. At the village of Coniston Cold, we bear right towards Bell Busk, entering the Yorkshire Dales enroute to the National Park Centre in Malham.
It gives reminder for planning more Dale rides in clearer weather.

Market Day in the Yorkshire market town
English lesson: a trip round The Yorkshire Dales
This is a MUFFINS English School video suitable for pre-intermediate and intermediate English students.
Here is the full text of this presentation:
It's fair to say that most tourists who visit Britain for the first time -- head for London.
In my opinion, a better way to see a wonderful piece of England is to take a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales -- sometimes simply known as The Dales.
The Dales is a very big national park made up of river valleys and hills in North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Cumbria.
So where does the word Dale originate. It comes from the Nordic-Germanic word for valley -- dal or tal.
A good place to start your tour is Skipton -- the gateway to the Dales in West Yorkshire. Skipton is a market town -- and it has a castle which was built by a Norman baron in 1090. In the 12th century, the castle was made stronger to protect it against attacks from Scotland.
Skipton became a rich little town trading in sheep and wool.
So what is so special about the Yorkshire Dales countryside? Well, its green pastures are separated by old dry-stone walls. There is no cement, just stones carefully placed together. In the pastures (or fields) you can see sheep and cattle lazily grazing -- eating grass and enjoying the peace and tranquility.
The dales are U and V-shaped valleys -- made bigger by ice age glaciers. Most of the Dales rock is Limestone but there is also shale and sandstone and Millstone grit.
On the higher ground there is a lot of heather moorland.
Most visitors to The Dales are sightseers. They either drive around the countryside -- or walk around. There are many hiking nature trails and a lot of wildlife to see. There are castles and other historic sites and many little stone cottages and pubs where you can stay the night.
The Dales has its own museum and steam railway.
And for the adventurous, there are long-distance routes including the famous coast-to-coast path. There are also several cycle paths.
We can't leave the Dales without mentioning Caves. White Scar Caves is a network of caves under the village of Ingleborough. It includes Battlesfield which is the largest cave chamber in Britain -- 90 metres long. It is open to visitors as a show cave with a shop and café where you can have a cup of English tea.

Places to see in ( Skipton - UK )
Skipton is a market town and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, Skipton is on the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to the south of the Yorkshire Dales, 16 miles (26 km) northwest of Bradford and 38 miles (61 km) west of York.
Skipton Castle was built in 1090 as a wooden motte-and-bailey by Robert de Romille, a Norman baron. In the 12th century William le Gros strengthened it with a stone keep to repel attacks from the Kingdom of Scotland to the north, the castle elevated Skipton from a poor dependent village to a burgh administered by a reeve. The protection offered by Skipton Castle during the Middle Ages encouraged the urbanisation of the surrounding area, and during times of war and disorder the town attracted an influx of families. It is now one of the most complete and best preserved medieval castles in England and is open to the public.
Skipton became a prosperous market town, trading sheep and woollen goods: its name derives from the Old English sceap (sheep) and tun (town or village). A market stemming from its formative years still survives. In the 19th century, Skipton emerged as a small mill town connected to the major cities by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and its branch Thanet Canal, (known locally as 'Springs branch canal'), but during the 20th century Skipton's economy shifted to tourism, aided by its historic architecture and proximity to the Yorkshire Dales. Since 1974, Skipton has been the seat of Craven District Council. The Skipton Building Society was founded in the town.
Today, main events in Skipton include the annual heritage event Skipton Sheep Day which takes place on the first Sunday in July on Skipton High Street and showcases what Skipton and the Yorkshire Dales has to offer with demonstrations, stalls, entertainment and food on offer.
Skipton lies close to the junction of the A65 road (from Leeds to the Lake District) and the A59 from York to Liverpool. Skipton railway station gives access southbound to regular services for Leeds and Bradford on the electrified Airedale Line; northbound services connect to Lancaster, Morecambe and Carlisle; the latter route is along the scenic Settle-Carlisle Railway, passing over the Ribblehead Viaduct. Skipton bus station was rebuilt in 2009. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal runs through Skipton and is a popular destination for tourists, with walking and boat hire.

In this video we are covering a small trip to Bolton Abbey, one of the famous historical places in UK. Hope you will like this video.
Bolton Abbey - in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, England, takes its name from the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian monastery now known as Bolton Priory. The priory, closed in the 1539 Dissolution of the Monasteries ordered by King Henry VIII, is in the Yorkshire Dales, next to the village of Bolton Abbey.
Bolton Priory
The monastery was founded at Embsay in 1120. Led by a prior, Bolton Abbey was technically a priory, despite its name. It was founded in 1154 by the Augustinian order, on the banks of the River Wharfe. The land at Bolton, as well as other resources, were given to the order by Lady Alice de Romille of Skipton Castle in 1154.[1] In the early 14th century Scottish raiders caused the temporary abandonment of the site and serious structural damage to the priory.[2] The seal of the priory featured the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child and the phrase sigillum sancte Marie de Bolton.[3]
The nave of the abbey church was in use as a parish church from about 1170 onwards, and survived the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Building work was still going on at the abbey when the Dissolution of the Monasteries resulted in the termination of the priory in January 1540. The east end remains in ruins. A tower, begun in 1520, was left half-standing, and its base was later given a bell-turret and converted into an entrance porch. Most of the remaining church is in the Gothic style of architecture, but more work was done in the Victorian era, including windows by August Pugin. It is still a working priory today, holding services on Sundays and religious holidays. (Source: WikiPedia)
