Skookumchuck Hot Springs - Maule M7-260C
After a great day of flying and riding around the Squamish area I decided to head east for the solstice to a place that very few Vancouverites ever manage to get to. I had been in contact for weeks with Robin out there at the Hot Springs Lodge and he gave me permission to plop down and roll out my mattress for the night. Once I got there I learned I was the first US pilot to land there - that's awesome!
The Skookumchump Hot springs are located on the bank of the beautiful Lillooet River and they are wonderful. Because the water is so clean and you can adjust the temperature, it is possible to stay in there for hours and not prune up at all. What a great place - I hope to come back soon. I got pretty aggressive on the approach and could have stopped in less than half the runway length which is good considering all the trees on the approach. A pilot could easily have a bad day on this strip - better know what you and your aircraft are capable of cause it wouldn't be hard to end up in the river or in Mr. T's living room - especially with a tailwind.

Shuswap Rapids, August 30th, 2012
This was our first day in kayaks. The rapids were barely there but yes, there was a bit of a nervous laugh in the middle. I forgot my gopro can still record audio while in the waterproof case.

Going To Town - E5
Welcome to this episode of sailing Nordic Sun II. In this episode we go to town. We leave Misery Bay and head to the town of Sechelt. We are heading to Sechelt to get a grease gun. Our anchor winch has been grinding and we decided it needed some grease to help with the noise.
The town of Sechelt has been the ancestral home of the Sechelt nation for 1,000’s of year. The first European settlers come to Sechelt in the late 1800’s. The steamships running up and down the coast made regular stops here.
In the early 1900’s the Union Steamship company would bring passengers here from Vancouver. They would come over on the morning boat, and then go back in the afternoon. Today you can get to Sechelt by ferry, boat, or seaplane. There sure were a lot of seaplanes coming and going while we spent the day here.
Very few cruising boats come here. Mainly because you have to transit the notorious Sechelt Rapids in Skookumchuck Narrows. The town of Sechelt is right on the Straits of Georgia. The peninsula between Sechelt inlet and the straits of Georgia is only 1.3 KM wide.
We walked out to the beach on the Straits of Georgia. It was a great day to walk on the beach and explore a new town.
If you haven’t cruise through the Skookumchuck Narrow, and the Sechelt rapids you should. Once past the Sechelt rapids there is pristine cruising with very few cruising boat. I’m going to start stopping at Sechelt more often.
