Doha (Arabic: الدوحة, ad-Dawḥa or ad-Dōḥa, literally: the big tree) is the capital city of the state of Qatar
Doha also serves as the seat of government of Qatar. Doha is home to the Education City, an area devoted to research and education. Doha was the site of the first ministerial-level meeting of the Doha Development Round of World Trade Organization negotiations. The city of Doha held the 2006 Asian Games, which was the largest Asian Games ever held. Doha also hosted the 2011 Pan Arab Games and most of the games at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Doha hosted the UNFCCC Climate Negotiations (COP 18) December 2012 and will host a large number of the venues for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The demography of Doha is unusual in that the majority of residents are expatriates, with Qatari nationals forming a minority. The largest portion of expatriates in Qatar are from South-East and South Asian countries, mainly Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Philippines, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, with large numbers of expatriates also coming from the Levant Arab countries, North Africa, and East Asia. Doha is also home to expatriates from Germany, Latvia, the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, South Africa, and Australia, as well as many other countries from all over the world.
In the past, expatriates in Qatar were not allowed to own land; however, now people who are not Qatari citizens can buy land in several areas of Doha, including the West Bay Lagoon, the Qatar Pearl, and the new Lusail City. Ownership by foreigners in Qatar entitles them to a renewable residency permit, which allows them to live and work in Qatar.
Much of Qatar's oil and natural gas wealth is visible in Doha, which is the economic centre of Qatar. Doha is home to the headquarters of the country's largest oil and gas companies, including Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas and RasGas. oil natural gas -- this is mostly the result of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa's modernization program.
Like the nearby city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Doha's economy is moving away from its dependency on the oil and natural gas industries, although unlike Dubai, Doha's main focus is not tourism. this has caused a boom in the real estate sector, with real estate prices skyrocketing.[20] According to the BBC, as of late January 2007, Doha is now a more expensive city than Dubai in terms of real estate prices. This rate of growth has led to projects such as the Lusail City project, which is being constructed north of Doha and will eventually house 200,000 people. Construction is also booming in Doha, a result of increasing corporate and commercial activity there. This is most visible with the changing skyline of the city, as Doha has over 50 towers currently being constructed, the largest of which is the Dubai Towers. At the same time, 39 new hotels are joining Qatar's booming tourism market, adding about 9,000 new rooms by 2009.
Some projects in Doha include:
Al Waab City
Aspire Tower
Commercialbank Plaza
Dubai Towers - Doha

In December 2010, Qatar won the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and bring the event to the region for the first time. As a result of Qatar's harsh summers and the small population of the country, the bid contained several unique elements which were unprecedented in World Cup history. The winning bid proposed that all stadiums constructed to host the World Cup would be built as air conditioned indoor venues, in order to ensure that the event could be held in summer.
In April 2012 Doha was awarded the 2014 FINA World Swimming Championships [32] and the 2012 World Squash Championships

Amazing Doha - Doha city tour , Qatar
Doha city tour , Qatar - Memories from Doha, Qatar
Doha, the capital of Qatar, used to be a small fishing and diving village. It’s now Qatar’s largest city with skyscrapers and a fast-growing urban area. The vast majority of Qatar’s population lives in metropolitan Doha. The name Doha may have originated from the Arabic Ad-Dawḥa, the big tree. Doha has two faces. In futuristic West Bay, each new skyscraper jostles for kudos within a landscape of statement buildings, where happening bars live in five-star, multinational hotels. On the other side, the romantic Souq Waqif's cobbled lanes lead into tiny stores selling spices, gold, Arabian perfumes, camels and Qataris' beloved falcons. On Friday evenings, local musicians and singers gather in the market's centre to jam, Bedouin-style. There is some serious architectural prowess on display, like the Museum of Islamic Art designed by noted architect IM Pei. Head inside to view priceless Islamic art that spans 1,400 years and three continents.

Even though Qatar is tiny, there’s still plenty to see and do, which is why it’s important to plan ahead before you head to this fantastic little country in the Middle East.
1. The Museum of Islamic Art
It was designed by IM Pei and is surrounded by meticulously manicured lawns and gardens. Inside, the museum houses one of the most extensive collections of Muslim art in the world.
2. Soak Up the City at Sky View
You might want to bring a little bit of extra cash if you’re going to grab a drink at Sky View, the rooftop bar of Doha’s La Cigale. That said, you won’t regret a soaring bar tab when you get a glimpse of the gorgeous views of the surrounding city.
3. Check Out the Massive Nobu
Okay, sure, there are 30-plus other branches of Nobu you can dine at across the world, but none of them with 26,000 square feet. The high-class Japanese eatery is on the water at the Doha Four Season hotel, so you can enjoy breathtaking views with your shrimp tempura.
4. Explore the Bling at the Weaponry Museum
It is filled with some incredible weaponry from the Arab world, some of it dating as far back as the 16th century. The museum’s selection of ceremonial weaponry, some belonged to Lawrence of Arabia.
5. Grab Some Sweets at Al Aker
Head to Al Aker, a cafe in Doha. Make sure to try a sampling of the kunafa, a local pastry that’s doused in syrup and stuffed with white cheese. Once you taste kunafa, it will haunt by the memory.
6. Go to the Emir’s GCC Camel Race
Take part in one of the most popular traditional sports in Qatar, the camel race in which riders compete for the coveted Golden Sword. It is a bit far, but the energetic atmosphere and one-of-a-kind sporting event are totally worth it.
7. Feel the Heart of Doha at Souq Waqif
The site on which Souq Waqif sits, has been home to a market for several generations; the current incarnation has been designed to resemble a souq from the 1800s, complete with mud-rendered shops and restored Qatari buildings.
8. Drive Into the Desert for East-West/West-East
There’s one Richard Serra' sculpture called East-West/West-East. A series of 14-meter-tall steel slabs spread out over a kilometer of the Qatari desert. Sure, it’s a hike to get there, but it is one of the more compelling reasons to explore the surrounding countryside.
9. Walk Through Omani Market
Here you can purchase Omani goods like dried fish, tobacco and lemons, incense, and so much more. Even if you’re not looking to shop, a walk through the market never fails to enthrall.
10. Take a Picture at Pearl Monument
Stop by the Pearl Monument where you can get breathtaking views of the Doha harbor. If you find the time to come at sunset or sunrise, you’ll see yourself soaking in views that you’ll keep with you for years to come.
