Tandem Skydive | Joshua Dickason from Maricopa, CA
Tandem skydiving allows first-time jumpers to experience the thrill and excitement of the sport without the preparation and knowledge required for a solo jump. It only takes a brief training after which you will freefall harnessed to a highly skilled instructor from over two miles above the Earth, reaching speeds of up to 120 miles an hour. At the safe altitude of 5,000 feet the instructor will deploy the main parachute. If you choose, you can activate the parachute yourself, and then take in the view of the San Joaquin Valley, Santa Andreas Fault, on the tranquil ride down.
Your USPA certified tandem instructor will wear a special glove equipped with two cameras, one for video and one for stills, with a special lens to capture the up-close footage of you in freefall. You will be able to share your reactions and expressions of your greatest adventure with everyone!
We dub, edit, and add music to personalize your video right after you jump. You will leave Skydive Taft with your own personal USB thumb drive of your video and digital photos for you to keep. Please notify us at the time of your jump if you would like our skilled instructors to capture your skydiving experience forever.

What is the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Program?
The AFF course is the unsurpassed method of training if you are interested in jumping with your own equipment and ultimately becoming a licensed skydiver. The AFF course is the most advanced skydiving training course offered and is endorsed by the United States Parachute Association (USPA).
On your first AFF Level, you will receive 4-6 hours of ground training, followed by the jump utilizing your own equipment and jumping with two USPA certified instructors. Under normal conditions, you will jump the same day as you complete the ground training.
The AFF Course/Program is structured in a two-phase training progression program. Phase I consists of eight jumps, where you will be jumping with an instructor on each level. Each one of the eight jumps is regarded to as learning categories (modules). Each category features a performance objective that must be accomplished prior to advancing to the next level. Completing Phase I qualifies you to make solo skydives under the supervision of an AFF qualified Instructor. At this point, you will be allowed to skydive on your own as you will now be on Student Solo Status.
What you can expect on your first jump
After reaching the desired altitude (12,500'a.g.l.), it is time to free-fall with your two instructors who will grasp your harness on each side. Upon exiting the aircraft, you will quickly accelerate to over 120 miles per hour for up to 60 seconds in free fall! You will then pull the deployment handle (ripcord) and enjoy a breath taking five minute flight under your own parachute. Yes, these parachutes truly fly and you get to steer your parachute during your descent. We will help you guide your parachute via radio communication and control commands for a safe landing. After the skydive, you will be critiqued and given a First Jump Certificate and a skydiving logbook. As you pass to the next learning level, your instructor will outline the next lesson plan and explain the new objectives.

Why Are People In Their 30s and 40s Moving To Greater Minnesota?
Ben Winchester, an educator with the University of Minnesota Extension Center for Community Vitality, has found a “brain gain” in rural Minnesota. Preliminary findings show that an increasing number of people aged 30 to 49 have moved to rural Minnesota. They brought children, careers, knowledge and life experiences. They looked for a slower pace of life, affordability, safety and good schools.

Skydivers from around the world returned to the air Wednesday at a popular Arizona skydiving locatio
Skydivers from around the world returned to the air Wednesday at a popular Arizona skydiving location that was the site of a deadly mishap involving two parachutists a day earlier.
Two skydivers were killed Tuesday after they collided during a jump, collapsing their parachutes and sending them plummeting to the ground. The men _ one from the United Kingdom and another from Germany _ were among about 200 people trying to set world records for group jumps.
Eloy police identified the victims Wednesday as Keiron O'Rourke, 40, of the United Kingdom, who had logged 849 previous jumps; and Bernd Schmehl, 51, of Germany, who also was highly experienced, with 1,707 jumps.
Participants met Wednesday and decided getting back in the air was the best way to pay tribute to their friends, many of whom know each other from other skydiving events around the world.
Everybody knows the rules. It's like when you go for war and you know that you can get hit, said Martial Ferre, a French skydiver who knew the accident victims. Every time we take off you that the plane may have a problem or whatever, he said.
Witnesses told investigators that both skydivers had open canopies when they ran into each other 200 feet above the ground. The two then fell to the desert floor with a loud thump that could be heard from several hundred yards away. The accident occurred at about 4:50 p.m., said Sgt. Brian Jerome, an Eloy police spokesman.
A third skydiver was injured in an unrelated accident.
Skydive Arizona, between Phoenix and Tucson, has become one of the nation's top skydiving spots since it opened in the 1980s.
Company officials said in a statement there were no problems related to the aircraft or equipment, and the weather was optimal at the time of the deaths, which occurred on the group's fifth jump of the day. They declined to comment further.
As he carried around his parachute gear after a group jump Wednesday with about 180 others, Ferre said getting back in the air was the right thing to do after the tragedy.
