Tandem Paragliding at Bir-Billing
Presenting the GoPro video of my tandem paragliding at Bir-Billing.
[Quick video guide: stunning visuals from 1:38, breathtaking aerial stunts from 5:50, landing from 9:00]
Bir, 65 km from McLeod Ganj, is the landing site and Billing, another 15 km up, is the takeoff site. Bir-Billing, the best paragliding site in Asia and the second best site worldwide, hosted the World Cup Paragliding event in 2015. Although the recommended season for paragliding here is from September to October, I went in the month of June, during my trip to McLeod Ganj. While the weather was brilliant, I had to wait for a long time for favourable weather conditions. The paragliding agency Skylark whom I chose after reading good reviews on TripAdvisor turned out to be very thorough with their work. During all the waiting for the right weather, I found out that Mr. Manu, the owner of the club, is a great person to talk to. Not only did he offer me tea and share hordes of useful information and trivia about paragliding and Bir, but he also gave special instructions to the pilot to make my experience all the better and even ensured I didn't have to pay extra for the GoPro filming. In the GoPro video, I can see myself very uncomfortable during the initial 30 seconds, as if I am having a heart attack! Thanks to Kartik, an expert pilot, for putting me at ease, and soon I was enjoying stunning views from my vantage point in the sky, while the deafening roars of the wind were like music to my ears. Although I flew a little over 12 minutes, it felt like an hour. Time really freezes when you escape the ordinary and get your adrenaline pumping. Final length of my video is about 10 minutes, as I had to edit out the unnecessary parts and a few embarrassing moments!
