Slane Castle and Distillery in Ireland - Day trip in January 2020
Slane village is about 45 minutes north of Dublin. They have Castle tours, Distillery tours, a restaurant, and a couple pubs. They also have concerts for major musical acts. We considered this a hidden gem in Ireland as the food is great, we like the whiskey and it is a very enjoyable day.
Slane Distillery Groundbreaking
Brown-Forman Corporation held its official groundbreaking ceremony today for Slane Distillery, the company’s initial entry into distilling Irish whiskey. Slane Distillery is also the first distillery built by Brown-Forman outside of the United States. The U.S. Ambassador to Ireland, Kevin O’Malley, joined representatives from Brown-Forman and Slane Castle for the distillery’s official construction kick-off. Slane Distillery, which will also include a visitor experience, is planned to open in late 2016.

There are 24 distilleries in Ireland now, and Slane Whiskey is one of the newest. In the shadows of historic Slane Castle in the Boyne Valley and based inside repurposed 18th-century farm buildings, Slane has seen its Triple Cask Whiskey become an instant global best-seller. Whiskey is aged in three different casks -- virgin casks, seasoned Tennessee whiskey casks and old world Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain -- and then blended for a smooth, approachable spirit.
