Dingle Way Dingle Peninsula Drive Map and Slea Head Drive Ireland + TiPS
I hope the Dingle Way Dingle Peninsula Drive Map will help you organise your road trip with attractions along the route. The Dingle Peninsula and Slea Head Drive in Ireland is a great road trip especially if you are lucky like me to get good weather. The map shows you the main route, but you can also add the Conor pass on your way back if you are an experienced driver. The pass road is a narrow one lane winding road passing through some of the tallest Irish mountains.
A great starting point to the drive is the Killarney town if you are doing the drive as part of the Wild Atlantic Way. Killarney has lots of pubs, shops, accommodations and restaurants. Another good starting point is Kerry airport if you arrive by plane to Kerry region.
From both it should take you 30-40 minutes to reach Inch Beach. From there you can head out to Dingle which is a cute little colourful town where you can spend some time at the shops or in the marina. I now regret now spending 2 days to do this drive to allow more time in some of these cute little towns.
Leaving Dingle town head towards Ventry and you are now on the Slea Head Drive, a smaller road that will take you around the coast. You will see plenty of signs that will guide you to follow the road. Don’t listen to the GPS which will tell you to follow a shorter not so scenic road.

We are at the western edge of Europe visiting Dingle on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. We are taking a drive out into the countryside to the Slea Head panoramic loop with marvelous scenery, lots of green hills, sheep, stone walls and archaeological sites. This is some of the best scenery in Ireland if not the world.
Dingle is out on the peninsula a little bit hard to get to and yet it's one of the nicest places in Ireland - it's got the urban charm of the town but it's a small town, and has beautiful natural countryside we explore in this episode.
Most visitors find the real attraction is the surrounding areas with the beautiful countryside and the historic sites, with a few minute’s drive you’re at the edge of town and in the countryside almost immediately. Driving from Dingle out around the peninsula and back again is just about 25 miles so you can easily do it in half a day while stopping to look at the sites. We're lucky that some of Ireland's prehistory is still quite visible with stone structures that have survived for thousands of years. The :beehive hut” stone domes site was occupied until about 1200 A.D. by which time it had evolved into a farmstead for an extended family with the habitation site and with the corrals and room for livestock farm buildings and storage places.
The Dramatic and Beautiful Slea Head Drive
Driving around Slea Head on the westernmost tip of Ireland, I’m enjoying the travelers’ hat trick: Venturing along a tiny road, being out in the early evening when things are quiet and the light is nice, and having the company of a good local guide (to do the driving so I can enjoy the view). Without a local guide like Colm (of Dingle Slea Head Tours), you could drive right by the ruined famine cottages and the corduroy fields without knowing that those faint ridges are the furrows planted in 1848 then never harvested and never touched since. (As the population is less than half of what it was pre-famine, that land was no longer worth working.)

Cycling Slea Head Drive, Dingle Peninsula, Ireland

Rent a bike from Paddy's and rode the classic loop of Slea Head Drive (35 miles clockwise) at Dingle Peninsula. Weather was just fine and I even got a little sunburn in the afternoon. Ended the trip with a seafood dinner (smoked mackerel, pasta, and a Guinness). Everything local. What a day.
Ireland Road Trip 2019 | Slea Head Drive Dingle | 5 Days
On our Ireland road trip 2019 we went to Slea Head Drive and stayed in Dingle. This was plenty of time for our Ireland road trip. 5 days gave us enough time in the Dingle Peninsula before we moved on to the Northern Part of Ireland and then over to Belfast. Other stops included Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, Slea Head Dingle, and Kylemore Abbey.
Our trip started in Dublin, Ireland and we drove straight to Dingle from the airport. This was a long drive in the dark, but fine for us since we were already in the UK and not jetlagged.
Driving in Ireland for Tourists:
Our sim cards worked fine for GPS directions so we were glad we didn't get it with the car. Make sure you research rental car insurance in Ireland as it is different and more costly than anywhere we've been.

Next on our Ireland road trip, we visit the Dingle Peninsula and take you with us on a drive along the beautiful Slea Head loop. The Wild Atlantic Way is one of the most stunning coasts we've ever seen during our travels! We had some great weather and were able to see as far as the Skellig and Blasket islands which we couldn't see on our first drive because of the fog. We didn't cover all of the Dingle Peninsula but the town is so cute and we enjoyed a beer at Dick Mack's pub before making our way to make new friends in Limerick.
