The Sleaford Engine at Forncett Industrial Steam Museum
Built by Robey & Co in 1904, this engine is a classic example of a tandem compound mill engine. When in use, it drove the entire factory at Sleaford Maltings for up to 6 months at a time. It was brought to the Forncett museum and can be seen running on Steam Days, which take place on the first Sunday of each month from May to November. The museum is well worth a visit as a day out with a difference.

A RAMBLE ROUND LOUTH 1940
A RAMBLE ROUND LOUTH
Louth & District, Lincolnshire, UK. 1940
May 1940. Three children go for a walk through Spring countryside that is timeless, idyllic. The war seems far away, but the children carry gas masks, and we are poignantly aware that everything we see is under threat. Today, we know the outcome. But those at the premiere faced the grim knowledge that they might be seeing these placid scenes for the last time. A beautiful, and intensely moving film, this little masterpiece is deservedly amongst the most popular items in the Archive.
Accession no. 070

UK Summer 2013
My summer in the UK/Ireland! Started in Cambridge, then had a free day in London. Hit up Stonehenge on our way to Bath, then took the Jane Austen tour. Had tea in the pump room, then we hopped on a ferry to Ireland. Spent a few days in Dublin, then stopped by Leap Castle before arriving in Connemara. After Connemara, we traversed back to England to visit the Lake District at Ambleside. Ended in Cambridge, and now I'm in Scotland! Another video to come.

SeaHenge (Steemit Exclusive)
Part of our Steemit exclusive collection.
In 1998 a circle of timber posts within the intertidal zone on the north Norfolk coast was brought to the attention of the Norfolk County Council Archaeological Service. A subsequent programme of archaeological recording and dating revealed that the structure was constructed in the spring or early summer of 2049 BC, during the Early Bronze Age. Because of the perceived threat of damage and erosion from the sea a rescue excavation was undertaken during the summer months of 1999. The structure was entirely excavated, involving the removal of the timbers and a programme of stratigraphic recording and environmental analysis. A survey was also undertaken within the environs of the site which has identified further timber structures dating from the Bronze Age. Detailed examination of the timber from the circle has produced a wealth of unexpected information which has added greatly to our understanding of Early Bronze Age woodworking, organisation of labour and the layout and construction of timber ritual monuments.
The purpose of Seahenge, will undoubtedly be added to the heated debate surrounding that of stone henge.
The strongest argument so far for such henges has been that of celebratory pilgrimage sites during solstices.
Although they remain a mystery, theories have even been put forward about them being ancient alien landing sites.
The excavation report was published in 2004 in the national journal Proceedings of the Prehistoric Society. A more popular, heavily-illustrated account will be published by English Heritage this year.
The Holme Timber Circle, aka sea henge, is currently undergoing conservation treatment at the Mary Rose Centre in Portsmouth. When this work is completed, the treated timbers will be displayed in the refurbished Lynn Museum in King’s Lynin the UK.
