2018 Thea Awards — Part 17: Sleep No More, Shanghai
‘Sleep No More’, an immersive play based on Macbeth, to be performed in Shanghai in December
A theater installed in a five-story hotel in Shanghai is to play host to “Sleep No More”, an immersive production based on Shakespeare’s classic Macbeth. The British troupe Punchdrunk will set the show in 1930s Shanghai. The audience will be allowed to venture into every corner, wear masks and approach actors and props while shuttling between 10 storylines during the three-hour show. Some 10,000 tickets were pre-ordered in July for December’s show.

BEST PLAY IN NEW YORK CITY - Sleep No More
IT’S SPOOKY SEASON!!
HAVE TO WEAR MASKS?? NO TALKING????
Hey guys! I am sorry I did not put up a video until now but I will be putting another one up today.
I go to the immersive play Sleep No More in NYC almost every time I go to NYC.
Watch the video to hear what it is about and some tips if you do decide to go to the play.
This play is so different from a typical Broadway show, but it is better.
Oh, I also forgot to mention that this play was featured in one scene in Gossip Girl! If you guys did see that scene, it is pretty different if you actually go, it is a lot darker and again, no talking.
Let me know if you have seen this play and what you guys thought!

Hello, this is DJ GG! I came back from a concert in the club Era in Shanghai, China !!! I went to sleep the night before because of the performance, but I am !!!! I wanted to show you the streets of Shanghai so I went to see Oriental Pearl !! As you can see from the video, Oriental Pearl is really at night than day !! It's pretty And the pink purple lights up colorfully how pretty (I want to see again.) And then actually went back to the hostel to check the sound just two hours to go to the performance ..? By the way!!!! On the way home, the taxi won't get you too much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't really lying, but I was refused to ride more than 20 cars .. It's in front of Shanghai's hottest place, Oriental Pearl. Please call me. But I can't call you this time. I walked to find a street without people, but failed ..! I was already going to the sound check until the appointment time, but I almost shed tears. I went around for more than two hours to catch a taxi (I've given up on two hours of eye contact already). I wanted you to catch some tea, so you picked up a car using a Daddy like Kakao Taxi app in China! God's grace, like the police aging haha .. ♥ But the problem is that the taxi went well and took a similar address other than our hotel and just got me out of there .. So I can't get off and catch it again, but I can't get back to it. So I tried to take a map and walk 30 minutes to the hostel. I ran up to So, it was a little late, but after finishing the sound check, I came back to the hostel and it was time to take a shower and perform. Extreme job .. But as much as I'm excited and happy than anyone! Ha ha ha ha really smashed !!! Ha ha ha really too hard to shoot when I'm not good eyes, too sleepy and hard to eat, I was just ready to go to the club and wait to go to sleep and flutter and trembling and happy .. (Yes .. I like the club so much ..) It was a great tour and happy tour after finishing the performance safely. This time, many Korean students came to Shanghai Era Club! I was so happy to see how much you had fun playing with me and taking a drink with a picture together. I was so glad to meet Koreans from abroad. I told you that I was watching Youtube well. Do you see this? Did you know that you were really happy that day? I love you. Once again, I will do my best once more and I will be supportive to prepare a lot. I was so excited and happy to see you in the video! When I go to China, I really need to have plenty of time to travel .. I really need to take a taxi.

What to do on a Short Layover in Shanghai (cheaply)
Under certain conditions, it is possible to transit in Shanghai without a visa. Nearly all nationalities do not need a visa if the transit is under 24 hours. Certain nationalities can even transit for 144 hours (nearly 6 days) without a visa.
For a transit under 24 hours, immigration can sometimes (based on the duration of the layover) let you leave the airport. This videos show you how to see the key highlights of Shanghai in less than a day.
What is shown in this video was visited from mid-morning to early evening.
To assist you for this short visit, get a good subway map (like this one: ). And watch our video on how to ride the subway here: and our video on how to ride the Maglev train here:

Wuhan Flu/ Coronavirus Outbreak in China, Jan.27, 2020
Hej! I am Dolly. This video is about Coronavirus in China.
1. 2823 cases are confirmed and 81 people dead. Patients who have heart attacks, obesity are more difficult to get recovery. Today another 12 medical staff, 1600 doctors and nurses go to Wuhan and support them.
2. In the last video I said that 290 k ppl left Wuhan but today I saw the official video from Wuhan mayor and he admitted it’s 5 million ppl left. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the specific period for this number but according to 2018 statistics, 2.5 million ppl left the city during the spring festival. I was really pissed that the Wuhan government didn’t tell the truth in the beginning and they tried to hide it. Some of them even said it wouldn’t affect ppl 2-3 weeks ago. My friend yang was working in Sri Lanka Kane she said if she knows that it will infect among people, she won’t come back. Before all news said coronavirus won’t infect kids and young people but actually there was a 36 old man died and one 9 months old baby got infected.
3. Internationally, lots of pharmacies offer free masks in Japan. Japan unofficial organization donated 1 million mouth masks to Wuhan. Thailand void visa expiration penalty for Hubei citizens as Hubei airports are closed at the moment. while Taiwan forbids all masks factories to export masks to the mainland. Korean restricted Chinese to enter Korean convenient stores. Sincerely thanks to Japan and Thailand and I hope I get a chance to visit these countries in the future.
4. All airport shuttle buses in Shanghai are canceled. Free cancellation or changing for all ferry companies and over 50+airlines. But most are Asian airlines.
5. To be honest, I am a bit horrified. For example, although in Shanghai only 50 cases are confirmed and we know where they are, when I hear my neighbors sneezing or coughing,I really want to close my window
6. You know wechat? Now we can report suspected cases through wechat.
7. Since we don’t go outside, I only walked 200 steps these days. I thought it’s a good time for me to study etc, but my internet becomes super slow. So basically I sleep and eat every day
8. A bit of discrimination. Now when I hear ppl from Hubei or Wuhan, I assume that ppl have higher chances to get infected and I will definitely stay away but maybe that person is Wuhan citizen and doesn’t go back for several months. Just imagine when I go to Sweden, ppl will assume the same thing because I am from China or I have an Asian face although I believe I am super healthy.

Cities - The Real Shanghai 1 of 2 - BBC Travel Documentary
Cities - The Real Shanghai 1 of 2 - BBC Travel Documentary, recorded 16.10.2010
There's no place in China quite like Shanghai.
There are no summer palaces, fog-enmeshed temples or cliff-side Buddhas here. Remnants of traditional culture remain, but to dwell there would be to miss the point entirely. Shanghai has never been about what has already happened - it is about what is going to happen.
For millions of Chinese, Shanghai is more than just a city. It is a symbol of change, opportunity and sophistication.
While Beijing may pull the country's strings, Shanghai is the pacesetter. It revels in its glamorous airs and entrepreneurial flair, in its global reach and ability to synthesise and adapt new ideas to home-grown tastes.
Haven
Tangled together with these positive associations are the memories of the foreign concessions.
Established after the First Opium War (1839-1842), they were loathed by many as centres of imperialism and exploitation, but simultaneously valued as havens of intellectual freedom and stimulation - a place to break with stifling Confucian mores and learn about the world outside.
Those looking to introduce change in imperial China - whether social, political or technological - flocked to them.
The Chinese government aims to make the city an international financial centre to rival Hong Kong by the year 2020.
Despite the positive changes that came out of the concessions, Shanghai was no paradise, with high levels of poverty and crime. The birth of the People's Republic of China in 1949 marked the end of both Shanghai's depravity and splendour.
Cleaned up and reined in, Shanghai fell into a deep sleep.
It wasn't until three decades later that Deng Xiaoping lit the spark for China's current economic explosion, casting aside ideology in favour of pragmatism - famously summed up in his earlier declaration, 'It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice'.
Special economic zone
Although Shanghai was initially passed over in favour of special economic zones that were easier for Beijing to control, it eventually got the green light to accept foreign investment in the 1990s.
This is when the blueprint for the city's future was first laid out. Today's frenzied rate of change is all part of a plan by the Chinese government that aims to make the city into an international financial centre to rival Hong Kong by the year 2020.
What at first seemed like an errant fantasy no longer appears to be so far fetched. At a social level, Shanghai is hardly an international city that can compare with Hong Kong or Singapore - China has been insulated from the rest of the world for too long.
Built from scratch
Many more people in Shanghai embrace a Western lifestyle
But overall, anyone who has seen the transformations of the past fifteen years - both the efficient metro system and the entire financial district of Pudong were built from scratch - cannot help but tip their hat.
And while some bemoan the destruction of traditional residences and historic buildings, no-one is complaining that the overall living standards have risen dramatically. More than any other place in China, Shanghai is electrified with its youthful optimism and prospects.
The best way to get acquainted with Shanghai past and present is to take a walk down the Bund. Originally a towpath for dragging barges of rice, the Bund waterfront became the seat of colonial power in the early 20th century, when it was home to the city's landmark hotels, banks and financial houses.
Mothballed during the Communist years, it is only in the past decade that the strip has become re-enamoured with its stupendous real estate value. Today the old buildings house designer restaurants and the flagship stores of some of the world's most exclusive brands.
Facing the Bund is the stupendous skyline of Pudong, the 'dragon's head' or financial hub not only of the Yangtze Basin, but of all China. The Bund is at its best in the early morning, when the locals are out practicing tai chi, or in the early evening, when both sides of the river are spectacularly illuminated.
