Sleeping Beauty Trail
A couple of days ago I took on the Sleeping Beauty hike in Haida Gwaii. This was the smallest, most exposed peak I've ever been atop of. I didn't stay at the summit for long.
Thunder Bay Lookout Bridge Over Pass Sleeping Giant Provincial Park Ontario Canada
Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is one of the Most Beautiful Parks in Ontario Canada and is one of the Most Scenic Parks with a mountain in its backyard is the reason this park was named the sleeping giant.
There is a spot along the highway before you get to the park and if you really look at the mountain from that site it really looks like a Huge Statue Man that is sleeping hence this is the reason they called it The Sleeping Giant, well I cannot explain it, you really have to be there to see it for yourself.
In Sleeping Giant Provincial Park there is a place called the Thunder Bay Lookout Area, this area looks from the back side mountains of the park straight at the city of Thunder Bay, Ontario Canada and it is on a Cliff that is approximately 800 to 1300 Feet High from the Shores of Lake Superior. It is beautiful.
I did this video to give you a sneak peak of what is coming up. So enjoy and have fun and do check it out.
This park is known for its Beautiful Hiking Trails and you really need weeks to really explore this Huge Sleeping Giant Park, there are some Canoe Routes there as well but seek guidance and help from Park Staff regarding Canoeing and Kayaking in Lake Superior especially in late Summer. The Waves in Lake Superior and some places are big as a huge truck.
Beautiful Place for RV and Camping and Van Life and all those interested in going on a road trip. This is a Must See Place in Western Ontario Canada.

CRAVES - BY MY SIDE :
Hiking “Terrace Mountain” of beautiful Terrace British Columbia - skies were filled with haze
Hike of 4.2 kilometres up at temperatures of 35 degrees here in Terrace British Columbia. Next hike I’ll be going up in altitude of around 4200 feet. Today was an opportunity so we went. We’d noticed the skies were hazy from those Forrest fires in Asia, the smoke is traveling over seas once again, but I have to admit it looks awesome!
Nass Valley Volcanic Cone Tour
We took a trip up to the Nass Valley up Hwy 113 and got to participate in a guided tour up to the volcano cone. It started at the Visitors Centre and then we drove part ways up a mountain, and then continued to hike the rest of the way to the cone. It was a beautiful trail, and an interesting experience, as our guide shared stories of his ancestors and what they used certain trees and berries for. When we reached the top of the cone, we were graced with a legend told by the guide, as well as a 'Taste of the Nass', which featured samples of food from the Nass Valley such as oolichan, dried salmon, fried bread, blueberry jam, salmon hash, and smoked sea lion. It was a wonderful experiece and I would highly recommend taking the tour. The tour leaves every morning at 10am from the Visitors Centre and be sure to phone at least 24 hours in advance for the 'Taste of the Nass'.

North of Superior: Scenery along Rainbow Waterfall
Rainbow Falls Provincial Park is located on Highway 17, 26 kilometers west of Terrace Bay. Visitors have two sites to choose from; Rainbow Falls campground, which is located on Whitesand Lake, and Rossport campground. The former includes 113 tent and trailer sites, 28 of which have electrical hookup, while Rossport has an additional 40 sites, with 16 including electricity.
The park is named for the rainbows that often rise from the glittering cascades that fall down the rocky steps from Whitesand Lake to the Whitesand River, which also lie within the parks boundaries.
Rainbow Falls is a surprise. The falls dont begin and end all at once, but rather the erratic jointing of the bedrock has caused the river to run over a number of ledges and drop in a series of cascades rather than one large fall. Furthermore, the falls look pink, as the water drops over the reddest of granites. Masses of lichen turn the same pink bedrock gray.
Wildlife found within the park includes hares, chipmunks and squirrels, as well as the occasional appearance of deer, moose and black bear. Grouse and great blue herons also make their home here.
Overnight hike to Petain Falls in Elk Lakes provincial park, BC - Shoulder season backpacking
Chef Evan Robertson and I packed extra gear to deal with the cold temperatures expected in the Canadian Rockies during the shoulder season (Oct-Nov). Even also packed extra groceries for episode 3 of our Gourmet Cooking in the Backcountry series. We're still experimenting with the concept, and we have lots of good ideas.
We laced our boots and drove to the trail head near Kananaskis Lake in Peter Lougheed Park. Our ultimate destination is the magnificent Petain Falls. Mount Pétain is located on the border of Alberta and British Columbia on the Continental Divide. It was named in 1918 after Marshal Philippe Pétain - at the time an honored war hero by Canadians as well as by other World War I allies. The name was retained despite the later reversal in Pétain's reputation after his having been Head of State of Vichy France.
The snow-capped mountain can also be reached from Height of the Rockies Provincial Park.
From Peter Lougheed park we hiked to the Alberta / British Columbia border and crossed into Elk Lakes provincial parks. This is one of the newest provincial parks in the Rockies.
We stayed overnight at a decommissioned campground just west of the Upper Elk Lake. The next day we hiked to the falls before heading back home via a slightly different route.

Kleanza Creek Treasure
A afternoon of looking for a old mining pack trail leading to the remains of a old miners cabin about 2 km beyond the Kleanza Creek Provincal Park campground near Terrace, BC. The trail and cabin likely date back to the 1930s or 1940s when many prospectors worked the tributary valleys of the Skeena River eeking out a living.
Kakabeka Falls - Thunder Bay - Ontario
Falls in May 2016 - flowing hard as just had large rainfall.
