Phuket, a rainforested, mountainous island in the Andaman Sea, has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches, mostly situated along the clear waters of the western shore. The island is home to many high-end seaside resorts, spas and restaurants. Phuket City, the capital, has old shophouses and busy markets. Patong, the main resort town, has many nightclubs, bars and discos.

A video of an early evening walk on Bangla Road, from the beach side to soi sansabai. I was peckish on this day after an afternoon on the beach and accidentally stopped for a kebab... :)
Bangla Road is the centre of nightlife for the popular Thai holiday destination that is Phuket.
There are many changes from previous years, with Bar Funk 3 & 4, Crazy Horse Circus bar and many others closing. There are some new additions too including the opening of Sugar nightclub and Crystal bar.
The table dancing ladies don't start until around 7 or 8pm so that accounts for the lack of activity in this video.
Parts of this video include:
0:04 Patong Beach
1:35 My favourite kebab place in Patong
3:25 Tony's bar has moved

Phuket: Thailand Travel and Tour Guide
Press play on our video about Thailand travel to get to know Phuket, the country’s largest island.
Explore with us as we take on this enchanting paradise, which dazzles with emerald water and soft sand. Teeming with deserted beaches and intriguing culture, Phuket belongs at the top of your travel itinerary.
The beaches are certainly the main attraction, and as soon as you catch a glimpse of the shore, you’ll understand why. Whether you’re in the mood for snorkeling off the coast or simply worshipping the sun from the shore, this is the place to do it. Stick to the tourist favorites, including Patong, Kata, and Banana Beach, or hop in a long-tail boat to cruise to the other nearby islands. You’ll find crowded shores with a nightlife scene in beach towns like Patong, but also set aside time to escape to more secluded stretches such as Paradise Beach and Laem Singh Beach.
Make time for some peace and quiet during your Phuket adventure. This island takes great pride in its religion and history, and the temples are a great place to get a sense of the region’s spirituality. With 29 Buddhist temples scattered around the island, you have plenty to choose from. Search for the massive golden Buddha statue at Wat Khao Rang, or venture over to Wat Srisoonthorn to see the sleeping Buddha. From the Phuket Big Buddha to the Wat Phra Thong, you’ll get your fair share of serenity while you’re in town.
If you’re ready to make some noise after visiting the silent temples, discover Phuket nightlife. Tourists tend to flock to Bangla Road in Patong, where the party never stops. From night markets to gogo bars, you’ll find entertainment at every hour in this vibrant part of town. Prefer to catch some elaborate performances instead? The dazzling Phuket FantaSea is certainly one of the best things to do in Phuket, as it boasts trapeze artists, carnival rides, and stage productions. Dubbed a cultural theme park, FantaSea offers everything, including restaurants, shops, arcades, and theater shows.
Take a dip in the inviting waters or join one of the Phuket tours. Whether your idea of a vacation is getting a little R&R at the seaside or dabbling in the region’s culture, you can do both—and more—on your next trip to this picturesque island.

Summer Breeze hotel in Patong is a very good option with rooms from around 1000-1600 baht ($30-50) depending on the season. This is a video from when I stayed there and it documents the room, the facilities and the surrounding area.
Parts of this video include:
0:04 Outside the hotel and map location

The good, the bad and the ugly:
The good:
Guest friendly, no fees to bring back a lady
Amazing location for the Patong nightlife
Nice clean room, everything was in full working order
The beach was a 6 minute walk away which is good for Patong
Comfy bed
American owner, good to know if there are any issues
Excellent service from the staff
Bad things:
No swimming pool
No fitness centre
Older, guesthouse feel to the rooms - could put some people off
No lift - the upper floors are definitely not for people with mobility issues
The Ugly:
Artex walls, haven't seen that for a long time :)
Overall:
I liked Summer Breeze hotel, and I'd stay again as it is a good choice in central Patong. I particularly liked being so close to Bangla Road, with many bars and restaurants being just a couple of minutes walk away. This hotel reminded me of staying in the nearby Adonis Guesthouse (video review:
The caveat about staying at Summer Breeze is that there is no lift, swimming pool or fitness centre. So be aware of these things when booking as they might be deal breakers for some people...

Ocean & Ole hotel in Patong is a very good cheap option with rooms from around 450-1500 baht ($13-45) depending on the season. This is a video from when I stayed there and it documents the room, the facilities and the surrounding area.
Parts of this video include:

The good, the bad and the ugly:
The good:
Guest friendly, no fees to bring back a lady
Great central location for the Patong nightlife, restaurants and shopping
The beach was a 10 minute walk away which is ok for Patong
Close to Banzaai market which is has high quality, affordable seafood in the evenings
Great room prices sometimes available, they drop their prices based on room occupancy rates so you can sometimes get great deals such as $13 a night...
Bad things:
No fitness centre
My room despite being 24 sq m was deceptively small
The hotel was a bit worn out and not the cleanest in parts
Busy & dangerous road to cross to get to the mall or Soi Sansabai
The Ugly:
Tiny rooftop pool area, not really usable for for more than a couple of people
Overall:
I liked the Ocean & Ole hotel, it was a bit rough around the edges but it's fine for budget travellers.
I also recommend it for people looking for a cheap last minute room when visiting Patong, some great deals can be had booking through agoda.
The room was quite small, so if you are going to be staying in your room a lot in the daytime I would probably choose a different hotel. But most people who visit Patong are out in the daytime at the beach or shopping, and out in the night at the bars or restaurants so it's fine as a crash pad...

Patong Hotel, Phuket 1000 Baht - Amici Miei
If this video was helpful to you then please consider booking your hotels through the agoda/booking .com links on bangkok112.com at no extra cost.
This small hotel is one of my favourite places to stay in Patong. It is away from the madness but everything is within walking distance.
If you are thinking of booking Amici Miei or another Patong hotel in the $15-40 range, make sure to read this website post for more info including essential booking tips:
Bangkok 112 is proud to be 100% independent and does not do any paid promotional work. All the hotels, bars and services seen in the videos and website are paid out of my own pocket.
For further info on hotels from Thailand and neighbouring countries:
I stayed at the Amici Miei hotel in March 2016. I found the hotel while browsing tripadvisor.
I paid 1000 baht a night and was more than happy with the price. Seasonal room price changes mean you can pay anything from 500 to 2400 baht for a room depending on the time of year.
After staying in a smaller room closer to Bangla road I relocated to Amici Miei and was very happy with the large room with a balcony. Everything was in full working order and I had a great stay there.
The hotel is guest friendly (as are most in Patong), and the reception needs to keep the ID card of your 'guest' until they leave for security reasons. Additionally, you can even take a second guest in for free here if that's your thing ;)
The WIFI was very good here, and each floor had it's own connection. YouTube could be watched at 720p.
No place is perfect. There was no swimming pool and the walk to the beach was 15 minutes so that could be a deal breaker for some people.
Bangla Road was 10 minutes walk away and this was ok as there was no need to get an overpriced tuk tuk.
The hotel helped book a taxi to take me to the airport for 700 baht which was a bonus. Tourist activities (such as a boat trip to Phi Phi or James Bond island) can also be booked at the reception.
Overall I would stay here again as it ticks pretty much all my usual requirements and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to a friend.
Ps. Why is it that all the good hotels seem to do the towel animal folding thing? :)

Phuket is the biggest island in Thailand, located in the Andaman Sea of southern Thailand. The island is mostly mountainous with a mountain range in the west of the island from the north to the south. The mountains of Phuket form the southern end of the Phuket mountain range, which ranges for 440 kilometres (270 mi) from the Kra Isthmus. Although some recent geographical works refer to the sections of the Tenasserim Hills in the isthmus as the Phuket Range, these names are not found, however, in classical geographic sources. In addition, the name Phuket is relatively recent having previously been named Jung Ceylon and Thalang. The highest elevation of the island is usually regarded as Khao Mai Thao Sip Song (Twelve Canes), at 529 metres (1,736 ft) above sea level. However it has been reported by barometric pressure readings that there is an even higher elevation (with no apparent name), of 542 meters above sea level, in the Kamala hills behind Kathu waterfall. Its population was 249,446 in 2000, rising to 525,018 in the 2010 decennial census, the highest growth rate of all provinces nationwide at 7.4% annual, some 600,000 people reside in Phuket currently,[12] among them migrants, international expats, Thais registered in other provinces and locals. The registered population, however, includes only Thais, and the end of 2012 was 360,905 people.[13]
It is estimated that Phuket has a total area of approximately 576 square kilometres (222 sq mi) (including the province's other islands). Phuket is approximately 536 miles (863 km) south of Bangkok, and covers an area of 543 square kilometres (210 sq mi) excluding small islets. Other Islands are : Ko Lone 4.77 square kilometres (1.84 sq mi), Ko Maprao 3.7 square kilometres (1.4 sq mi), Ko Naka Yai 2.08 square kilometres (0.80 sq mi), Ko Racha Noi3.06 square kilometres (1.18 sq mi), Ko Racha Yai 4.5 square kilometres (1.7 sq mi), and the second biggest, Ko Sire 8.8 square kilometres (3.4 sq mi) (It is also the 2nd most popolated in Mu Ko Phuket.
It is estimated that if all its 39 other small islands are included, Phuket Province will cover an area of 576 square kilometres (222 sq mi). The island total length, from north to south, is estimated at 30 miles (48 km) and 13 miles (21 km) wide.[14]
Phuket's topography is exceptional with 70 percent of its area covered with mountains which stretch from north to south and the remaining 30 percent being plains located in the central and eastern parts of the island. It has a total of 9 brooks and creeks but does not have any major rivers.
Forest, rubber and palm oil plantations cover 60% of the island.[citation needed] The western coast has several sandy beaches, while on the east coast beaches are more often muddy. Near the southernmost point is Laem Promthep (Brahma's Cape), which is a popular sunset viewing point. In the mountainous north of the island is the Khao Phra Thaeo Non-hunting Area, protecting more than 20 km² of rainforest. The three highest peaks of this reserve are the Khao Prathiu (384 metres (1,260 ft)), Khao Bang Pae 388 metres (1,273 ft) and Khao Phara 422 metres (1,385 ft). The Sirinat National Park on the northwestern coast was established in 1981 and protects an area of 90 square kilometres (35 sq mi) (68 kilometres (42 mi) marine area), including the Nai Yang beach where sea turtles lay their eggs.
One of the most popular (and overcrowded) tourist areas on Phuket is Patong Beach on the central western coast, perhaps owing to the easy access to its wide and long beach. Most of Phuket's nightlife and its cheap shopping is located in Patong, and the area has become increasingly developed. Patong means the forest filled with banana leaves in Thai. Other popular beaches are located south of Patong. In a counterclockwise direction these include Karon Beach, Kata Beach, Kata Noi Beach, and around the southern tip of the island, Nai Harn Beach and Rawai. To the north of Patong are Kamala Beach, Surin Beach and Bang Tao Beach. These areas are generally much less developed than Patong, and sought out by individuals, families and other groups with a preference for more relaxed and less crowded environs than Patong. There are many islands to the southeast, including Bon Island, just a short boat trip away. There are several coral islands to the south of Phuket, the Similan Islands lie to the north west, and Phi Phi Islands to the south east. Islanders engage in a lively tourist trade, catering to snorkellers and scuba divers.
