The stone forest (Shilin - Yunnan - China)
(EN) The Stone Forest or Shilin (Chinese: 石林; pinyin: Shílín) is a notable set of karst formations located in Shilin Yi Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, People's Republic of China, approximately 120 kilometres (75 mi) from the provincial capital Kunming. The tall rocks seem to emanate from the ground in the manner of stalagmites, with many looking like petrified trees thereby creating the illusion of a forest made of stone. Since 2007, two parts of the site, the Naigu Stone Forest (乃古石林) and Suogeyi Village (所各邑村), have been UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst. (wikipedia)

Amazing The Real of STONE FOREST of Shilin, Kunming, Yunnan, China ????????
Stone Forest, known as the best in the world wonders , is one of the must-see attractions in Kunming.
Stone Forest has the world's most peculiar karst landform. The sword-shaped karst topography is the main feature of Stone Forest. About 300 million years ago, Kunming Stone Forest was a vast expanse of water. But, after a long geological evolution, it finally became a very precious geological relic. Because of its natural wonders, Stone Forest has attracted numerous tourists at home and abroad.
Kunming Stone Forest is the only karst landscape that is located in subtropical plateau. Known as the Stone Forest Museum, Stone Forest is regarded as the China National Geological Park, the World Geopark and one of China's four major tourist attractions.
Stone Forest in China
The Stone Forest is in Lunan Yi Nationality Autonomous County, which is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Kunming and requires only a three-hour drive. It covers an area of 400 square kilometers (96,000 acres) and includes both large and small stone forests, as well as many other scenic spots. An old local saying says that 'If you have visited Kunming without seeing the Stone Forest, you have wasted your time.' Truly, the Stone Forest is one of the most important attractions of Yunnan.

Stone Forest, Shilin, Yunnan, China | DEBENHANS Travels
We had an enjoyable weekend at the Stone Forest (Chinese: 石林 Pinyin: shílín), a UNESCO Heritage Park located at Shilin, Yunnan Province. We are amazed by various rock formations in different shapes and sizes. An awesome creation of nature where rocks are standing vertically like trees, hence the name, Stone Forest.

Kunming, Yunnan, Shilin Stone Forest - China Travel Channel
The Shilin Stone Forest - 石林 - or Shilin Yizu Zizhixian - 石林彝 族 自治县 - located southeast of Kunming is a highlight for all visitors.
Shilin Yi Autonomous County, formerly called Lunan County, is home to the Yi nationality and under the jurisdiction of Kunming , the provincial capital of Yunnan in China. The bizarre formations of the Stone Forrest stretch across 24,000 hectares. 80 hectares of the Stone Forrest have been developed for tourists. 270 million years ago, sediment settled in the sea. Later the sediments were lifted tectonically and the soft layers were eroded by wind and water. The limestone formations reach a height of 98 ft.
Since 2007, two parts of the Stone Forest - the Naigu Stone Forest and the Suogeyi Village - belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites as part of the South China Karst.

The Shangri-La market (Yunnan - China)
(EN) Shangri-La County (Chinese: 香格里拉县; Tibetan: རྒྱལ་ཐང་རྫོང་།)is a primarily Tibetan county in northwestern Yunnan province, Southwest China and is the location of the seat of the Dêqên Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. The county was formerly called Zhongdian County (Chinese: 中甸县 Zhōngdiàn Xiàn) but was renamed in 2001 after the fictional land of Shangri-La in the 1933 James Hilton novel Lost Horizon, in an effort to promote tourism in the area. The local Tibetan population refers to it by the name Gyalthang (Tibetan: རྒྱལ་ཐང་རྫོང་), which is the Tibetan name for Jiantang Town (建塘镇 Jiàntáng Zhèn), the county seat. (wikipedia)

China Attractions - Stone Forest - Wendy Wu Tours
Covering over 300 kilometres, the towering kart pinnacles of the Stone Forest (or Shilin) create a mysterious illusion of woodland. Made up of many smaller stone forests, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage listed as part of the South China Karst area, the formations you see here today were formed over 270 million years by erosion and seismic activity. As you wander through the maze of giant pseudo-stalagmites, stumbling across caves, waterfalls and lakes, it’s easy to see why the area has so many legends associated with it.
