Cumbria's Eden Valley Walk 5 1
This is a 9 mile circular walk over Crosby Garrett Fell, in the Eden valley, Cumbria, returning through Smardale Gill National Nature Reserve. On the way you pass an area known as 'Severals', one of the most extensive prehistoric settlements found in Britain. The nature reserve is noted for several types of orchid, the rare bird's-foot sedge, and two species of argus butterfly. As it was deep snow in mid January, we saw none of this! Further details can be found in the Cicerone guide to 'Walking in Cumbria's Eden Valley' by Vivienne Crow. visit
