It the was our first time in Dominican Republic and we couldn't have a better experience! We travelled with Agencia Abreu and Jolidey Operator and we chose to stay at Iberostar Dominicana. It was better than we expected. Pros: All staff is very friendly and always available. The food is very good. There is a lot of variety.
Just returned from 6 nights. It was wonderful!! The kids club was fun and engaging for our 8 and 6 year old boys. The beach and pool area was clean, I never got up early to save spots and we always found a place to sit on the beach or by the pool.
Minuses:
Ok now that I have your attention lol... Let me tell you the one thing other reviewers are NOT telling you... THERE IS NO SWIM UP BAR!!! At least if you're staying at the Dominicana or Punta Cana. I stayed at the Dominicana for my 30th birthday. The resort was ok. This appeared to be very European and Spanish speaking resort. Nothing wrong with that but if you're an American that's speaks no Spanish it's just a FYI. I speak Spanish, so I got along ok. The beach is gorgeous. The pools are shared between 2 resorts and are crawling with kids. A swim up bar is a great way for separating children from adults, while sharing the same pool. I got a complimentary room upgrade to a junior suite for my birthday which was great! There aren't many outlets in the room, heads up. Went to the steak restaurant and the Mexican. My sirloin was wonderful. Best thing I ate at iberostar! Mexican was lacking, as was the rest of the food at the buffets. We were not told they have a beautiful state of the art gym! Definitely worth checking out. Shows and poolside entertainment were not very entertaining. Don't expect too much from the night shows. No Bueno. 1st resort I've been to where there wasn't a beach party at least once a week. They sent a complimentary bottle of Brugal to my room for my birthday. I will say one thing, their staff are the friendliest people I've ever met! Always smiling and very helpful. Some of the stand outs were Big Mama, Eudy and Domingo (dining room), and Gigi (front desk). I travel to DR about 2-3 times a year. I was hoping for a lil more from iberostar.
