Castle Tioram Loch Moidart Lochaber Highlands Of Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of Castle Tioram, Scottish Gaelic: Caisteal Tioram, meaning dry castle a ruined castle that sits on the tidal island Eilean Tioram in Loch Moidart, Lochaber on ancestry visit to the Scottish Highlands. The island fortress is first recorded in a charter of Cairistíona Nic Ruaidhrí. According to early modern tradition, the castle was erected in the fourteenth century by her niece, Áine Nic Ruaidhrí. The castle served as the seat of the latter's Clann Domhnaill descendants for the next four hundred years. Castle Tioram is now known as the traditional seat of the Clanranald, Clann Raghnaill, branch of Clan Donald. The castle was seized by Government forces in around 1692 when the clan chief Allan MacDonald of Clanranald joined the Jacobite Court in France, despite having sworn allegiance to the British Crown. A small garrison was stationed in the castle until the Jacobite rising of 1715 when Allan recaptured and torched it, purportedly to keep it out of the hands of Hanoverian forces. It has been unoccupied since that time, although there are some accounts suggesting it was partially inhabited thereafter including for the storage of firearms from the De Tuillay in the 1745 Jacobite Uprising and Lady Grange's account of her kidnapping.

Soldier's Leap Pass of Killiecrankie Highland Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland video of photographs of The Pass Of Killiecrankie gorge on visit to Highland Perthshire. The Battle of Killiecrankie, 27th of July 1689, was the first and most significant of the battles of the first Jacobite rebellion. Although it was an important victory for the Jacobites, it also resulted in the death of the rebel leader, Viscount Dundee, a major factor in the subsequent collapse of the uprising. Donald MacBean, one of William III of England's supporters, on seeing the battle was lost, is said to have cleared the gorge, from one bank to the other, at The Soldier's Leap.

Abandoned Crofters Cottage and Mirrorlike Loch Rannoch
It's early October and a mild day in the Highlands. We are in the area of Loch Rannoch and the loch is mirror like. Stunning. The ruins of an old crofter's cottage (or at least that what I think it is) catches our attention. Enjoy!
